The UCD Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1959, and has since established itself as a major campus and community arts offering. D. Kern Holoman was its fourth conductor, 1978–2009.

My archive consists of materials through 30 June 2009.

The UCD Symphony has toured California, Canada, and Australia and French Polynesia. In June 2003 the orchestra traveled to France to participate in the Berlioz bicentenary over the course of a series of five concerts. During Holoman's tenure the UCDSO regularly served as the pit orchestra for UCD Mainstage productions and appeared at major campus events and ceremonies, including Fall Convocation and multiple Commencements.

Beginning with the 2002–03 season the UCD Symphony became a principal resident ensemble at the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts located near the entrance of the campus along Interstate-80.

The EME was founded in the fall of 1973, based on plans made by Prof. Theodore Karp to convert the Madrigal Singers into a collegium musicum. I planned and led the first four seasons and the 1979 tour of the Play of Daniel to celebrate the 900th anniversary of Winchester Cathedral. Succeeding directors of the EME were Bruce Lamott and David Nutter.
