1. My Interests in Diversity and Equality in Japanese Society
I have many reasons I want to take this class in this semester. First reason is that valuing improvement of my English skill. This mean that I took part in Mr. Nix`s english class and now I feel improvement of my english skill because of that class`s pair work and research about social problems And I enjoyed to research articles in english and expalin people in english. Second reason is that I am interested in migration and refugee issue. And I also want to know gender equality, sexual diversity and LGBT rights. This is because the situation that I have to explain those things for foreign people might come. Third reason is that I would like to work to take advantage of diversity by sharing opinions and so on
Topics and issues I want to learn about in this semester is that gender equality in society. Mostly I would like to research area that gender equality in company. Recently mote and more equality is needed and company needs women`s hand because of decreasing birthrate and aging society. I will share my opinions about those issues and accept other opinions to understand deeply and to generate solution
2. Gender Roles, Equality and Discrimination
The reason why I am interested in this research area is my own experience and my interests. My experience is the time when I go to high school. I heve never experienced gender discrimination before , maybe this is because of my awareness. When I listen the news about women is not still equal in Japan. I was so shocked and surprised because not to think about such a circumstances exsits in Japan. I think that I could not understand what is happening in the world. Then I started to get interests this situation. And I also want to solve this problem for us to leave better world. I think that this problem`s main point is that men`s stereotypes. It mean that women take as women equal. So if men take women equal , discrimination would disappear. Question I had in my research is that 「Does japanese government do effective job?」.「How can we solve the problem?」The conclusion I think to solve this problem is impossible. But I think to improve women`s position.
3. Japanese Companies' Support for Minorities at Work
I focused on researching Japanese company. Firstly, I tried to search Japanese company`s rank in the world. This is because I have to know where Japanese company valuate in the world. I really can not expect how many Japanese company ranked in. When I watch best global rank, I disappointed the number of Japanese company which rank in “Best global company in 2018”. Just 7 company ranked in that. I do not understand whether this rank is good or not. “Toyta” is 7th rank and also top rank in Japanese company. So I decided to research Toyota`s system to support minority and the reasons why this company is good reputation mean “brand”. I thought that my research area has developed because I have got to know about Toyota`s good system. For example, Childcare support by preparing “company nursery school” and “childcare leave system” and so on.
As I organized my presentation, I always think about my purposes, main questions and conclusion. I made a flow to make my presentation understand easily. To make my presentation better, I have to do introduction → system → experience or case. So I researched again about these topics. My thought has so much improved because I saw all my research when I made my presentation. And I came up with the idea that both foreign and Japanese company have good system to support minority including LGBT, disabled people but these system are not enough and make it better by exchaing their data how their systems do well or bad. I want to focus on speaking loudly , use eye contact and point the pictures and words that I want to emphasis. And I really want to make listeners to understand my research purposes and questions , then discuss their opinion.
4. Companies' Systems to Support Minorities
In this cycle, I researched “company`s system to support minority”. When the second semester begin, I got interested in hunting job and looking for company that I am suited fot and what system is good benefit for me to work flexible. Those are reasons I have decided to research this area. Actually, there are a lot of company in the world as you know. And in this zemi`s aim is “Diversity and Equality in japan”, so I have to research japan`s situation. Then I came up with the idea that comparing oversees brand that is popular with japan and Japanese company that is famous in the world. I think it is interesting because we can understand our situation both good and bad point.
I want to connect my idea that I researched last semester. I did “Gender roles, Equality and Discrimination” and “Foreign residents and migrant workers”. I actually did not connect only about gender research. So I cannot make use of foregin workers situation in this semester`s research. Women`s position`s advance is important in the world and most valuable in Japan that is aging society I thought. Last, semester I focused on researching governmental efforts to promote women who is minority in the company. I think it is necessary to promote minority`s positon that organizations. This is because people belong to some organization, like school, club, company and NGO so on. And we can divide mainly two type of people as school(not mature)and company(mature)
5. Conclusion
In "Diversity and Equality in Japanese Society Zemi 2019", I got conclusions from my classmates research that I listened when the class was opening and my research. Through studying this year, the time is not enough to understand this. I thought that there are another good system to support minorities. In this year, I researched Patagonia, Starbucks and Toyota. I only researched 3 industries (food, car marchandise and cloth shop).
