Configuring sendmail for mail relay
If your network design requires the use of a mail relay server for mail delivery, sendmail can be configured to deliver outbound mail into the relay server's queue.
An authentication username and password can also be configured. The mail relay server may be configured to only allow emails from a specific domain, in which case the sendmail server could need to be configured to masquerade as originating email from that domain.
1. Log into Comma GUI.
2. Select Start
3. Select Configuration
4. This will take you to Setup page.
5. Under Global Settings, Enter the SMTP host, SMTP port, Masquerading domain, SMTP username and password in the appropriate fields.
6. Select Review Apply.
Note: The relay server's hostname must be entered, not its IP. If the hostname is not known, create an entry called 'mailrelay' in /etc/hosts with the IP and use 'mailrelay' as the hostname, as the following:
Sending a test email
You can send a test email from the command by using the 'mail' command, to confirm if the mail relay setup above is correct and functional.
1. SSH into the Com.X
2. From the command line type:
3. Enter a Subject, and press enter.
4. Enter a message, and press enter.
5. Enter a "." on an empty line to signal the end of the message.
6. Enter CC, and press enter.
If above email is received at the stated email address, then mail relay setup is correct and functional, and voicemail's should be mailed, to configured email address, if a voicemail is left behind on an extension. If not, then the mail relay setup is incorrect, and you would need to confirm correct settings.
