Sample Investigation I:

Determine the effectiveness of solar oven by measuring the temperature inside the oven before closing the cover, and then measure the inside temperature again, after the cover has been closed for a few minutes.

INTERPRETATION: Closing the clear cover allowed the light and heat energy to enter the solar oven, but prevented the heat from escaping. Therefore, the temperature increased by 11 degrees Celsius in 13 minutes.

Determine whether or not the color of paper changes the amount of energy absorbed in the form of light.

INTERPRETATION: The black construction paper absorbed more light, and in turn, more energy. Therefore, the temperature of the black paper was 1 degree Celsius higher.
