The Pacific East District has positively impacted fulling our purpose, as evidence by:
Designing and implementing our Strategic Plan which includes seven Critical Initiative Working Groups that organize and provide leadership, guidance, and support to schools
Enhancing our Focused Collaboration process to provide opportunities for educators to collaborate toward meeting high student achievement
Placing at least one Professional Learning Instructional Systems Specialist (PL ISS) at each of our six complexes to provide support to the teachers and administrators
In SY 2016-2017, the Pacific East District identified the first district purpose statement. In addition, the schools in the Pacific East District each developed a purpose statement and implemented a process to review their purpose statement on a regular basis.
The district focused much attention in implementing Focused Collaboration and using the preparation for our first systems accreditation to discover who we were as a school system versus a system of schools.
In SY 2017-2018, the district embarked on embodying our purpose statement by filling empty positions at the district office. This was done to maximize our ability to support schools with the implementation of our DoDEA College and Career Ready Standards (CCRS) and the implementation of the new assessments under our DoDEA Comprehensive Assessment System (DoDEA-CAS).
In SY 2018-2019, the district strengthened our commitment to our purpose statement by dedicating many resources to continuing the rollout of CCRS and implementing our annual Internal Review Visit (IRV) process to monitor quality assurance and guide our improvement journey.
In SY 2019-2020, the district reshaped Focused Collaboration and implemented a “tight” structure with all sessions being job-alike sessions. In order to maximize district guidance and support in making Focused Collaboration an essential resource in our educational process, the district provided district-wide training and weekly support of Focused Collaboration. Due to the onset of COVID-19, the district office refocused much attention on leading, guiding, and supporting our schools in the transition to remote learning and maintaining quality education for all students.
In SY 2020-2021, the district made tremendous progress in fulfilling our purpose through several transformations of our system:
Realignment of ISS support across the district: District leadership initiated the process to have a professional learning instructional systems specialist (PL ISS) housed at and working with each complex. In the original DoDEA restructuring in 2016, only four of our complexes were provided a PL ISS due to their geographical distance from the district office. After observing the benefits of having a PL ISS working directly with schools, district leadership determined that each complex would benefit from having a PL ISS.
Steering Committee: Observations from IRVs indicated that stakeholders were not consistently understanding how the district initiatives fit together and that the district could benefit by having greater stakeholder representation in shaping our improvement journey. The district created the Pacific East Steering Committee, composed of teacher, administrator, ISS, and district leadership representation.
ePortal: In order to provide a one-stop resource for stakeholders, the Pacific East District developed ePortals for educators, administrators, and ISS.
Levels of Support: The district implemented Levels of Support as a means of maximizing resource allocation in support of our schools.
In SY 2021-2022, the district further expanded systems to fulfill our purpose:
Strategic Plan: One of the major outcomes of the Steering Committee’s first year was the Pacific East Strategic Plan. This plan structures our improvement journey by outlining its organization. One characteristic of the Strategic plan is the seven Critical Initiative Working Groups that guide the work, professional learning, and resources throughout the district.
Pacific East Data Management System (PEDMS): The district implemented PEDMS in response to observations made during the 2020-2021 IRVs that indicated all our schools needed a better structured process to use data to inform instruction and decisions.
For evident suggesting positive impact fulling our purpose statement can be observed through the implementation of our systems and processes. Please refer to the specific evidence packages in the Souvenir Shop.
