The Pacific East District’s efforts to ensure all staff members have the appropriate knowledge and skills has positively impacted student performance and organizational effectiveness, as evidenced by:
Partnering with the Center for Instructional Leadership (CIL) to provide mentoring and coaching opportunities for district and school leaders and instructional systems specialists (ISS)
Working with the CIL to provide training to district and school leaders and instructional systems specialists (ISSs) regarding DoDEA’s Coaching model and effective coaching practices
Defining and expanding the role of the ISS to focus on providing coaching opportunities for classroom educators
Establishing Professional Learning Instructional Systems Specialists (ISSs) at all six complexes in Pacific East District to expand opportunities for teacher coaching
Outlining leadership development and onboarding, coaching, and mentoring critical initiatives to support school-based mentorship
Allocating new teacher mentors for each Pacific East District school to ensure onboarding and mentoring opportunities for all new Pacific East Educators
Developing the Substitute Academy to ensure common onboarding of substitute teachers within the DoDEA Pacific East District
The Department of Defense Performance Management and Appraisal Program (DPMAP) aligns with standard 3.3 as it serves as the professional evaluation system within DoDEA. The DPMAP process provides DoDEA employees with performance elements aligned to the expectations associated with their role. Evaluators engage in beginning-of-the-year, middle-of-the-year, and end-of-the-year meetings with each employee.
DoDEA’s College and Career Ready Standards (CCRS) provide the standards and curriculum necessary for educators to improve student learning. The Pacific East District provides ongoing professional learning to improve educator professional practice in support of improving student learning. Teachers new to Pacific East can access and review previously provided DoDEA CCRS training.
The DoDEA Learning Walkthrough Tool (LWT) provides administrators and educators with guidelines and expectations regarding instructional practices. Administrators are provided with the expectation to engage in five learning walkthroughs each week and use the LWT as a method to provide ongoing support and learning opportunities to educators within the Pacific East District.
Focused Collaboration serves as the vehicle for educators to collaboratively engage in job-embedded professional learning focused on student achievement. All educators engage in Focused Collaboration on a weekly basis. Educators review evidence of student learning and use this information to make instructional decisions to ensure equitable access to learning opportunities. New educators can review the Focused Collaboration new teacher resources and collaborate with peers to help them improve their instructional practices.
The DoDEA Human Resources Department, as part of the Foward Integration Support Teams, provides onboarding for new DoDEA employees to ensure a positive start to their DoDEA career.
The Pacific East District Leadership Development provides administrators with a variety of learning opportunities to develop their professional practice. Professional learning opportunities for leaders include leadership summits, complex huddles, CSI Networking Days, CSI Complex Days, Leadership Meetings, principal and assistant principal learning networks, and coaching opportunities. The establishment of this process has led to an increase in leadership’s understanding of the common Pacific East processes while also promoting collaboration and collegiality.
The Pacific East District developed a multifaceted program for onboarding, mentoring, and coaching through collaboration with Centers of Instructional Leadership (CIL), Civilian Human Resources Agency (CHRA), human resources, and headquarters. As part of the work of the program, every Pacific East School has been provided with a new teacher mentor to support all teachers new to Pacific East District Schools.
The Pacific East utilizes ongoing professional learning opportunities to ensure all educators provide 21st century learning for all students. Professional learning includes a focus on student-led discourse, project based learning, and integrating digital learning. Educators new to the Pacific East District can review previous professional learning sessions on the Pacific East Faculty ePortal.
The Pacific East Strategic Plan, developed by the Pacific East Steering Committee, aligns with standard 3.3 as it arose from feedback from stakeholders in requesting direction for schools, administrators, and teachers across the district in alignment with DoDEA’s goals and initiatives. In addition to the Onboarding Mentoring, and Coaching Critical Initiative Working Group, the additional six critical initiative working groups also provide structures to support colleagues.
The Pacific East District partners with the DoDEA Human Resources Division to provide a quality education for the children of our military and eligible civilian personnel stationed in the Pacific East District through the implementation of automated systems to enhance our educator recruitment process, track the timeliness and accuracy of our personnel action processing, process travel orders and entitlements, and track the timeliness and accuracy of pay related inquiries and grievances. Through this, the Pacific East District continues to recruit, develop, and maintain a talented workforce.
DoDEA personnel are required to complete a series of mandatory training annually to remain in compliance with DoD regulations and improve organizational effectiveness.
The Pacific East utilizes DoDEA’s online comprehensive learning platform to conduct a multitude of training, including ethic training. This system provides all DoDEA employees with an individualized professional learning platform that helps to sustain and grow the DoDEA workforce.
The Pacific East District houses a system of Instructional Support Specialists (ISS) in specific content specialities and in overall educational practices at the district office and across all complexes to support College and Career readiness standard implementation and provide professional learning opportunities to all teachers. The role of the ISSs is to support educators and administrators in delivering quality, standards-based education for students to graduate college and career ready.
The purpose of the Pacific East District Substitute Teacher Academy is to provide clear, consistent, and continuous support for substitute teachers to ensure excellent instruction is provided to students.
