The Citadel Mountains

A sliver of mountainous peaks where the Ryme River splits into the Norspyr and the Dregsys rivers as they flow southward. The range is marked by numerous abandoned strongholds of ancient humanity.

Geography

The Gray Mists. Rising all along the length of the Norspyr River and into the mountains, the chilling mist hides countless dangers within, causing most passing ships to favor the eastern shore.

Teeth of the Ashdrake. The volcanically active peaks to the south where the mountains border the Ember Flats. Known as a domain of toxic ash and burning terror, as a malign presence is said to move within the smoke and flames.

Roads and Landmarks

The Bridge of Phantasms. A ruined bridge that passes between the peaks of the mountains shrouded in fog. Though it can be seen by those passing along either river, any attempts to locate the bridge within the mountains have been met with nothing.

The Road of Lost Kings. The ancient and now forgotten road that traces throughout the mountains connecting the various abandoned keeps and strongholds. Named for both the lost kingdoms the humans once held in the region, and for the Dragon Kings that took them as the Age of Fire Began.

Settlements

Harroc Hurthi. The great bastion of the Hunter's Age, the order of hunters that first led the Ashbreak Rebellion to bring the tyranny of dragons to an end. Seated within the ruins of a Dragon King's palace, the center of Hunter's Age campaign at the end of the Age of Fire, where they set out to exterminate all dragonkin. At the northern tip of the region, where the Ryme River splits into the Norspyr and Dregsys rivers, the order still holds vigil following any rumor of monstrous threat to the races of Kyme.

Vangmontyr. A recent vampiric settlement at the feet of the mountains, tucked in a small valley near the banks of the Norspyr River. Dedicated to the Unliving Emperor, the god king of the vampiric people, the residents offer a chance for all to embrace a life everlasting. To choose a life of strength undying in order to survive the greater terrors of the world.

Ruins and Subterrane

Below the peaks of the Citadels lies the Throne of Ash, as the fissures that run across these mountains open to the volcanic oblivion below. The mountains once held human kingdoms that fell to ruin before the Age of Fire, it is said the denizens disappeared as the dragons gathered power to take them. Mystery surrounds this region and it is duly feared by those who pass within its borders.

The Cindren Hold. A crumbling castle built within a barren caldera to the southwest of the region. The human populace that once dwelled within it and at the feet of the mountain developed some modicum of control over the element of fire, allowing the settlement to persist until it was abandoned.

Hyre Redoubt. A single tower remains of this ancient human structure, clinging to the side of a peak that overlooks the Dregsys River. Many tell of seeing a flame atop the tower some nights in varying Elemental Seasons.

Leftkeep. The ruin of a large hold, where once a small human kingdom likely filled the valley before the Dragons came in the Age of Fire. The stone now stands melted and the valley a tomb for a sovereignty now forgotten.

Raven's Look. Barely a stone is left undisturbed in this ancient human fort, as it lies at the north east edge on the Norspyr River. Named for the ravens that flock to this place, as if driven by some instinct or otherworldly power to gather.

Val'mort. Lost in a vale amongst the peaks, many tell of a fortress most grand that has withstood the ages. Travelers who had dare draw near it, tell of the air being fouled with the smell of iron, and a crimson mist surrounds it. As a diabolical sect of the Ninth Legion, worshipers of Malceth, the goddess of murder and treachery, have taken hold there.
