Sundered Age

The secrets of Arkyme and its founding were laid bare after the Sundering. The First Magister, the human, Ekko Phydel, founding member of Arkyme, had pacted with entities of the Aethereal Plane known as the Scions of Creation. Beings of elemental magic, aether, that has always escaped mortal understanding, their knowledge was given to Ekko so he might achieve the impossible. The Scion of the Hour stepped onto the Prime to give tutelage to Ekko and the founders of Arkyme, in this, the final hour of Kyme’s extinction. The Scion went by the name “The Unfollowed” as they sought to preserve that which the gods had sacrificed themselves to create. With their knowledge Ekko was able to awaken the primal forces of the elements, creating a will within the elemental planes, joining them as an elemental deity, the Lasting One.

The raising of the City of Arkyme was at the hands of the Lasting One as they tore apart the world, creating the Elemental Divide, as the Founding Members claimed they had raised the Summits of Arkyme. The Lasting One was bound to Ekko and the Unfollowed, and ultimately the City of Arkyme.

This was the first of many wonders to come from the secrets of the Scions. Next, those taught by the Scion of Making as they whispered them from the Aethereal Plane, the creation of that which could sate the vampires in hopes of bringing the War of Extinction to its end. Yet, Ekko could sense in sharing both power and mind with the Scion of the Hour, that this being had not given these secrets freely, that the price of such power would be paid in the end. Ekko in confidence with Vellumtine Gasconge, the vampiric founding member of Arkyme, enacted a plan to consume both the Scion of the Hour and himself in order to prevent the Scions’ ends coming to fruition. The ritual to create the Chattel, used both the soul and essence of the Scion of the Hour, and Ekko Phydel. Vellumtine knew that some day would come when the other Scions would make Arkyme pay for its transgression, and would bring about their ends for the world.

...........................................

In the three hundredth year since the War of Extinction and the Pact of Arkyme had held, the secrets of Arkyme and countless other powers in the world remained buried. There came to many Fated visions of shadows of light and strange whispers from entities unknown. Vellumtine of the Arkyme Council called them forth to contend with the source of these visions and the dread that loomed for all the world.

Across the world the Scions of Creation lured the Fated to sacrifice themselves as they sought to be consumed in order to remake the world. As the Fated came to realize, the Scions sought to rend the magic from the world with the catastrophe known at The Takings. The Scions overtook the great civilizations of the world. As the Fated saw from Arkyme this catastrophe unfold, the Councilor Tobin Ahscient brought them to the Council Summit, as he sacrificed Vellumtine, to break the soul of she who had consumed the Scion of the Hour, granting them their return.

The Takings were horrific in the fear and actions they inspired. The lone mountain, The Grasp, was raised over Dymkrag, ready to bury the dwarves in their high kingdom as the Scion of Making wished to reclaim the Dheur, the divinely cursed dwarves that misused the Scion’s power. Next the Scion of the Eclipse took the Ecculus, the eclipsing moon of the Lighted star, and brought it over Synstasia, searing the city with its molten flames. The Scion of the Eclipse intended to break the Divine Chain created by the Paradisum of the Synstsians that leached power from the upper planes. It was the Scion of Annihilation that exposed the belief of the dark elven goddesses ascension as deities, instead their corpses lay at the bottom of the Aelderwell. The Scion’s destruction of Malanh and all it held sacred was complete. Finally, the Scion of Passage descended upon Duemonte to reap those unliving, and exact the cost of the Unliving Emperor’s intrusion upon the Prime. The Scion sent The First Fang, one of Draumah’s Eight Undying Princes, back to The Tombs, plane of undeath.

All this the Fated carried out with preserving a fraction of the City of Arkyme. It came to them to continue on this Fated path and bring an end to the Scions intent to destroy the Prime to save the planes. For in the Age of Air, when the world began, the gods sacrificed their will to become a living essence for all mortals to draw upon. Vesting power in the Scions of Creation to grant the aether, magic to all mortal kind. Yet the encroachment of the Elder Ones, those entities divorced from reality that the gods had carved out the multiverse from, led the Scions to decide it was better to save the planes, though it meant the prime material, the plane where all law and chaos consists, be forsaken.

With Tobin Ahscient as his prophet, the Scion of the Hour retreated to the frozen north of the Rimehold, where he would use an eldritch artifact, known as the Polestar, to awaken an eldritch gate sealed within the Shadowed. The Fated stopped The Scion of the Hour from unleashing the horrors from beyond. Choosing that they would preserve the prime for as long as other Fated like themselves wish to take up both spell and sword, and walk this path into the Sundered Age.
