Weekend

A fine start to the day yesterday (Saturday) as stepping out of the backdoor a Ring Ouzel flew out of the tall Sycamores with a Fieldfare and into the back hedgerow. Within the same second, a Willow Warbler started to sing in the neighbours garden! Unfortunately that was about as exciting as the day got, a walk around the local patch produced nothing more than Brambling still present in Sidestrand. As a late consolation a Red Kite drifted east over the garden at 1545, with some damage or possibly some debris hanging off its right wing.

Ring Ouzel in garden first thing

Red Kite, not sure whats with the wing in the 2nd image?

Today again started well, with a call from Andrew C. that he had just had a Goshawk from Trimingham and it was heading over towards us. Shortly afterwards I picked the monster up as it started to circle with a Common Buzzard, there wasn't a great deal of size difference between the two! The deep 'crop-full' chesty appearance, with thick 'hip profile gave the bird a distinctive shape when soaring. It started to head towards the garden but then peeled back east gliding out of sight. A great garden tick! Another local walk this afternoon produced much as yesterday, the cold ESE breeze apparently not too condusive to much moving.
