Warm light NE 1-2 high pressure dominating UK

With migrant season rapidly drawing to a close I pushed on today with a three village combo walk, Northrepps, Trimingham and Sidestrand. As it turned out my best bird of the day was a winter visitor, a Merlin seen in hedgerow opposite the Shrieking Pits, then flew off north. Along the cliffs small parties of Swallow were heading north, along with the odd House Martin and there were still a couple of Wheatears present. A suicidal Grey Squirrel had the world upon his shoulders looking to end it all....who am I to stop him! Offshore a couple of groups of Common Scoter east(south) and 3 Tufted Duck west(north) and a single Whimbrel on the beach. At home the highlight was a warbler, an Acro, and try as I might I couldn't turn it in to a Marsh, a Sedge Warbler singing in the East Hedge. The sky was clear of any broad wings to speak of, and although I know I'll go on until the 1st week of June, in my heart of hearts I think its all over for another year, and brings to a close one of the worst springs I can remember....unless ofcourse I find a Pallas's Sandgrouse next week!
