Still chilly!

Not soon after leaving for work this morning I got a phone call cancelling the days buisness and informing me I was not expected in. A short detour and I was at a cold, icy Gunton Park. There was still some open water here but nothing to report, I was hoping to jam in on a sawbill or maybe a Bittern, but nothing. After that a visit to the private site was disappointing because of the numbers of birds were good, but the variety limited : 700 Teal (I was bedazzled by horizonal white stripes, not a vertical to be seen!) 250 Mallard, 20 Gadwall, 53 Shelduck and a handful of Shoveler; not a single cold movement bird amongst them!

Returning home I now had time to walk the dog which ensured that my previous 9 Woodcock were now trumped with 13! A good record anywhere, but feeding on the deck together, I've never seen it before. Further on the water Rail scooted up the brook, and further still up to 4 Common Snipe could be seen. Could really do with a Jack.
