Double Bill

A grey, cool day, and with the other half just coming off a night shift I popped out for a couple of hours this morning. A wander around Pigney's Wood had many birds pairing up, singing and displaying. there must have been at least 30 Blue Tits here along with smaller numbers of Great, Coal and Long-tailed Tit. One area held at least 5 Bullfinch, and Goldfinch feeding in the Alders alongside a dozen or so Siskin and a single Lesser Redpoll. A probable Mealy Redpoll was seen brieflyfirst thing but could not be relocated. On the way home I looked in on Gimingham fishing lakes where the reported drake Goosander was immediately seen, then was joined by the redhead Smew. Two sawbills for the price of one, can't be bad!
