Mr and Mrs Gordon had wanted to move to a larger, more comfortable house for some time. Last year they finally had enough money to do so. Their children were less keen on the move as they loved the area where they lived and didn’t want to leave it.
When the time came to sell their house, however, the Gordons discovered that selling their house would not be such a simple matter. It seems that they had a neighbour, Mrs Smith, who was jealous of their success. The neighbour was prepared to do anything to prevent them selling their house. Every time potential buyers came to see the house, she frightened them off by telling them that the house was haunted by ghosts so the Gordons had great difficulty in selling it.
Nevertheless, many curious people came to see the “haunted” house. Mr Gordon, who was a clever man, decided to turn his house into a business asset. He used his technical knowledge to make the house seem really haunted. In the end, he was grateful to his jealous neighbour. The house soon became a popular visiting place for lovers of the supernatural. People paid a lot of money to visit it. By the time people discovered the hoax, Mr Gordon had made enough money to buy the house of his dreams and go on a cruise around the world.
