Trafalgar Square

Trafalgar Square is a square in central London. Its trademark is Nelson’s Column which stands in the centre and the four lion statues that guard the column. It is a site of political demonstrations.

The place commemorates the Battle of Trafalgar (1805), a British naval victory of the Napoleonic Wars. The square consists of a large central area surrounded by roadways on three sides, and stairs leading to the National Gallery on the other.

National Gallery

The National Gallery was estabñosjed om 1824 and moved to Trafalgar Square in 1838. The Gallery presents paintings from about 1260 to 1900 for the public to enjoy freely. Among the painters represented are Botticelli, Rembrant. Rubens, Caravaggio, Leonardo Da Vinci and Van Gogh.
