Upper Canada Land Petition of John Ulman, hatter, dated at Newark on 13 Aug 1795

“Humbly sheweth That your Petitioner has lived on the East side of the Landing opposite Queenstown for more than nine years—where he has carried on his Business of a Hatter & that he now is desirous to settle with his Family within the Limits of this Province—That your Petitioner has a Family, consisting of a wife and Six Children, and humbly Prays your Excellency will be pleased to grant him & Family such Lands as to your Excellys wisdom may seem meet, your Petitioner having never as yet applied for any—and as in duty bound he will ever pray [Signed] John Ulman” Received at the Executive Council Office on 13 Aug 1795 and read on 20 Aug 1795. Upper Canada Land Petition of John Woolman dated at Newark on 20 Feb 1797

“Most humbly sheweth That Your Petitioner has always been a steady Loyalist and a resident in the Province since its first Settlement – That he is married to Catherine the Daughter of Henry Huff, likewise a Loyalist who served His Majesty during the late American War—That your Petitioner has four children now living by his said Wife who were born previous to the year 1789 – and two now living who were born since that Period – being Six in all. That His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor having examined into your Petitioners claims desired him to petition for lands which your Petitioner accordingly did but his Petition never having come forward your Petitioner fancies that it has miscarried by being mislaid. —Wherefore Your Petitioner prays that your Honor may allow him the usual proportion of Lands for himself, his wife, and Family, having as yet never received any acre for either—And as in duty bound he will ever pray &ca [Signed] John Woolman” Read in the Executive Council on 26 Feb 1797. “Personally appeared before me John Woolman who made Oath that he came into this Province before the year 1789, that he has married Catherine Huff the Daughter of Henry Huff, Daughter of a Loyalist, by whom he has Six Children now living, Four of which were [born] before the year 1789, and two since that period, Ages not particularly known at present but to be returned [……] if required. That the Deponent has taken the Oath of Alegience. Sworn before me at Niagara this 20th of February 1797. Upper Canada Land Petition of Mary Street dated at Niagara on 5 Sep 1796

“Humbly Sheweth That She is Daughter to Samuel Street Esqr of Queenston whose early attachment to the British Cause, during the late Dysentione in America took him from his Family, and left your Petitioner (an Infant) in the then Province of New York to the Dangers and Distresses naturally occurring from the Convulsive State of the Country – That Her Father after Peace took the earliest opportunity of bringing her into the then Province of Quebec, where your Memorialist has ever since resided, —that coming under the Description of those entitled by His Majesty`s Bounty to waste Lands of the Crown – Your Memorialist trusts in a Grant of such a Portion thereof as your Honor in his Wisdom may think fit. Upper Canada Land Petition of David Palmer Utter of the Township of Grimsby dated at Grimsby Township on 25 Jun 1795

“Humbly Sheweth That your Petitioner was formerly an Inhabitant in the state of New York and in good Esteem as Doctor of Physick, particular in that Branch of Inoculation for the Small Pox. Whereby he had Procured a Small Estate and Comfortable Living for himself and Family and that by Reason of his Attachment to the British Constitution and Government, and not Complying with the Requisition of the New Government of the State, Lost his Business as a Physician and a Great Part of his Property which he had Acquired; and that he Came into this Province in the Yeare 1790 Expecting to Receive some Compensation In Lands for his Losses and Ill Treatment.
