That your Petitioner some time after joined a troop of volunteers as a volunteer with His Father who was Lieut of the same – that your Petitioner’s Father who was killed in a Skermish with Morgan’s Riflemen and your Petitioner was made Prisoner for seven Months, and during the time he was a Prisoner was twice tried for his Life – That your Petitioner made his escape from them and arrived at New York about the commencement October 1776 and then engaged in the Commissary Department with Mr Graham as Issuing Commissy under him, in an expedition to the West Indias commanded by Genl Grant in which employment He remained for the space of twenty three Months and returned to New York; that your Petitioner some time after entered in the Engineer’s Department and remained in that Employ till the year 1782 when he engaged in the Commissary Department of Forage on Long Island and remained their untill Peace…”

He is a native of America. Lived on Susquehannah, joined the British early, joined Colonel Butler first. Served under him and Colo Johnson all the War, first in the Rangers, Then in the Indian Department. – Was employed to go with Intelligence from Niagara. Now lives at Fort Erie. –

He produces a Commission from Governor Trumbull in the year 1775 appointing him Lieut. in the 9th Company in the 24th Regiment in the said Colony – Says the Chief of that Company joined the Company afterwards. –

“humbly shews—That he has been wounded in his Majestys Service—That he served in Pepperells Corps, during the war preceeding the late Rebellion in America—that your petitioner was a Lieutenant of militia in the Colonies, when the Rebellion commenced—that as soon as the Rebels declared their Independence, your petitioner fled from them to the British Standard, & brought Sixty two followers with him, to join the Kings troops—That your petitioner then served as Lieutenant in the Indian Department, & received pay as Such—Your Petitioner served also in the Forresters—& was often engaged in action for the King’s Cause—Your petitioner has the satisfaction & the honour to represent to your Excellency, that he served Capn Caldwell & his party from being utterly destroyed on the Susquehanna, Capn Caldwell certified this Circumstance to the actg Sur Genl when he was here—Your Petitioner saved the lives of 2 other partys…”

The said Henry Dickhaut was wounded and taken prisoner and five years afterwards, he saw the said Henry Dickhaut a prisoner and further the Deponent sayeth not so help me God—” John Hope made his mark. “Sworn before me Day & Date above mentioned—[Signed] Robert Kerr J.
