“Most humbly sheweth That in the early part of the late American War Your petitioner with his father, commonly called Captain Robert Land, took Arms for Government and entered upon actual Service under Captain Brandt was afterwards taken prisoner at a place called Cart[…]ton when acting as a Volunteer under the said Captn Brandt made His Escape from Confinement and joined the Royal Standard at New York where he entered & served in the Engineer Department. That Your petitioner had the Honor of serving under Your Excellency in this latter Capacity at Great Bridge in Virginia and was one of those embarked on Board of His Majestys Fleet destined for the relief of York Town—That your petitioner continued in Arms against the Americans untill the peace…”

Your petitioner Begs leave to inform your Honour that He was previously to the late rebellion possessed of considerable property in lands and personal estate in Pennsylvania, and was also a magestrate under the old constitution in that Colony. All which he has lost and never received any compensation for his losses, and but little compensation for his services…”

“Most humbly Sheweth That your Memorialist has had the Honor of serving the late and His present Majesty Thirty eight Years, on the Coast of France in America and the West Indies. That your Memorialist in the year 1774 in consequence of his services at Martinique obtained from Governor Tryon a Grant of Three thousand Acres in the Province of New York near Lake George, which upon the breaking out of the Rebellion in 1775 he was wholly deprived of—that the same year, your Memorialist voluntarily left his Family and Home for the Service of his Country, was in Quebec during the Blockade in the Campaigns of 1776 and 1777 under the Command of Lord Dorchester and General Burgoyne, continued in the Service the remainder of the War, and was at the conclusion of it a Captain in the 84th Regiment—That your Memorialist has lost two Sons whose Commissions he purchased, serving in this Country—that he has yet two, unprovided for now in the Province and prays on their behalf as a reward for his Services & Losses…”

“Humbly Sheweth That Your Memorialist has Served Thirty Six Years and in the former War on the Coast of France, America, & the West Indies, and on the peace 1763 was reduced a Capt in the late 76th Regt when he became Entitled to Three Thousand acres of Land, which he took up in the year 1770, in the Provence of New York near the head of Lake George, but which he shortly after lost by the Event of the American Revolution without the Smallest Compensation made to him. “The Memorial of John Lawrence Esquire of the City of Burlington, in the late Province but now the state of New Jersey. Most Respectfully Sheweth, That your Memorialist during the Rebellion in America was Summoned to appear before the Governor and Council of Safety (then so called) and the Oath of Abjuration and Allegiance to the States tendered to him, which he refused being then one of his Majesty’s Council and always firmly Attached to the British Constitution and Government. That he was Committed to Close Confinement, Charged with Treason against the United States and an Attempt made to Confiscate his Estate all which he bore with fortitude as will Appear, by Nos 2: 3: 4: 5 and 6. That his losses have been great not only from his Attorney and Counsellors Practice being Suspended, but by the Payment of many Thousand Pounds in Continental Money at a Depreciation of 60 and 70 for one, and for which he has not received any Compensation, whatever…”

Captn Lottridge was recorded on “List of the Indian Officers etc. drawing provisions at Niagara, 6th August, 1783.” Noted opposite his name was “In the Indian Country.” With him was one servant.

Mr Lotterige’s family was among those held prisoner by the Americans on an undated list compiled during the American Revolution circa 1778. The family consisted of 1 woman, 2 boys and 2 girls. (Prisoners held by the Americans)

Mrs Lottridge & four Small Children in Mr R Lottridge’s family, named in “A List of Persons in the hands of the Congress belonging to the Corps of Rangers, Royalists & their Families”

In “Return of Persons Under the description of Loyalists, Specifying the Number, Age & Sexes & Number of Rations drawn by Familys In the Indian Department” dated Niagara 1st December 1783 Captn Robert Lottridge was listed aged 34 with the following stated to be “In the Colonies” Mary Lottridge 30, John Lottridge 13, and Robert Lottridge 11. Issued 1 ration.
