“Humbly Sheweth That your Petitioner was the Wife of John Sacheverel, who served during the whole of the last War along with Captain Brant, and never received any Pay during that time for his Active Exertions which can be born testimony to by many Individuals in this Country particularly Captain Brant – That your Petitioner rest Satisfied that the British Government in this Country will reward Bravery & Fidelity; and that the Widows and Orphans of Soldiers will be peculiarly attended to; As a Grateful Boon to your Petitioner, she Anticipates the Bounty of Your Honor in an Additional Grant of the Waste Lands of the Crown to render her respectable in Her neighborhood and Sooth her Feeling – In your Council in a former Petition a number of Recommendations are lodged – Your Petitioner having Received 300 Acres already is very Gratefull, but Should Your Honor be pleased to listen to the Solicitations of your Petitioner and Grant her any Additional Quantity, she will as in Duty Bound ever Pray—[Signed] Joseph Doere for Jane Sacheverel” Read in the Executive Council on 14 Mar 1797. That he was four years in the Kings works- as an Artificer. Upper Canada Land Petition of Mathias Saunders [signed Matthias Sanders] and William Chambers both of the Township of York dated at York (Toronto) on 23 Dec 1800

“Humbly sheweth That your Petitioners are informed that there is a large tract of Land in the Township of Wainfleet, covered by water, and called the Cranberry marsh: that your Petitioners are led to think, that with proper drain some part of the marsh may be brought into use – they therefore humbly pray your Excellency for a grant of two thousand acres of said marsh, at the rate of Seven pence half penny p acre – in such easy payments as may be thought expedient, and Your petitioners as in Duty bound shall ever pray [Signed] Matthias Sanders” William Chambers made his mark. “The Petition of William Scantling – Respectfully shews—That he has been 8 years in the Province and never received any Land – that he is married to Jane – a daughter of John Donaldson who served His Majesty many years in the 55th Regt— That your petitioner is desirous to settle on the lands of the Crown in this Province, being in a condition to cultivate and improve the same. That he has taken the usual oaths, & is ready to subscribe the declaration, that he professes the Christian Religion, and obedience to the laws, and has lived inoffensively in the country. Prays your Excellency, would be pleased to grant him 200 acres & to his wife 200 acres of land upon the terms and conditions expressed in your Excellency’s proclamation bearing date the 7th day of February, 1792, or such other quantity of land as to your Excellency in your wisdom may think meet. “Know all Men by these presents that I George Scarlet of Bertie in the Home District and Province of Upper Canada am held and firmly bound unto Samuel Street Senior of Willoughby in the District and Province aforesaid in the sum of One Hundred pounds lawfull Money of said Province to be paid unto the said Samuel Street or his certain attorney Executors administrators or assigns to which payment well and truly to be made I bind myself my heirs executors and administrators firmly by these presents sealed with my seal and dated the fourth Day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven Hundred and Ninety Seven and in the thirty Seventh of his Majestys reign. “The Petition of John Scram who came into the Province in 1785- with a wife & Two children (has at present Six Children)—Respectfully shews – That he has only received one Hundred acres of Land— That your petitioner is settled & has cultivated and improved the same. That he has taken the usual oaths, and subscribed the declaration, that he professes the Christian Religion, and obedience to the laws, and has lived inoffensively in the country. Prays your Excellency, would be pleased to grant him in the County of York (where his mother & many of his family are settled upon the terms and conditions expressed in your Excellency’s proclamation bearing date the 7th day of February, 1792, or such other quantity of land as to your Excellency in your wisdom may think meet. “Humbly Sheweth. That on the eighteenth day of January 1791 your Petitioner obtained three Land Board Certificates and that on the thirteenth day of July 1796 was recommended for Two hundred acres on a Petition to Lt. Governor Simcoe in Council. That your petitioner having made considerable improvement on the land granted him by the above mentioned authorities is desirous to obtain deeds for the same, which he humbly prays your Excellency in Council may be pleased to grant him. Executive Council notes on the Upper Canada Land Petition of John Scram

“Read in Council 2 Jan 1805. Recommended has the Kings Patins issue in Confirmation of Lot No 14 in 2d Concession and Lots No 13 & 16 in the 3d Concession in the Township of Grantham entered on the Quebec plan to the Petitioner agreeable to the three Land Board Certificates for one Hundred Acres each dated 18th January 1791. It appearing also from the Surveyor Generals report, annexed, that the two hundred acres ordered in council the 13 July 1796, were not neglected to be described to the Petitioner from any fault of his, the Committee recommends that the order may now be carried into Execution, the Petitioner being entitled to Privilege as a U. E. Loyalist [Signed] Peter Russell Presiding Councillor.” Warrant W. 31 issued for the three lots in Grantham and Warrant X31 for his 200 acres ordered 13 Jul 1796 issued 4th January 1805. “Humbly Sheweth That your Petitioners joined the Royal Standard at New York in the year 1777 and remained with the British as a Wagon driver during the whole of the American War & after the Peace your Petitioner went Home to the place of his nativity. Your Petitioner came into this Settlement Upwards of Two years ago with a wife and five children. Your Petitioner Has a Stock of Cattle, Farming utensils &c &c and is desirous of going on to Lands of his own should Your Excellency be pleased to extend his Majestys Bounty towards your Petitioner & family and your Petitioner as in duty Bound will Ever Pray” Peter Schram made his mark. “Petition of Valentine Scram, Carpenter—has been in the Country 11 years—is married & has received no Land—Respectfully shews, That your petitioner is settled on the lands of the Crown in this Province, being in a condition to cultivate and improve the same. “Respectfully Shews That your petitioner served in Colonel Butlers late Corps of Rangers in the late American War, and upon the reduction married the daughter of Adam Bowman, who was likewise a Soldier in Colonel Butlers late Corps—That your petitioner has only received two hundred acres of Land – prays your Honor would be pleased for to grant him his residue, and a certain proportion of Land for his wife, and two children which was born before the Year 1789—and your petitioner will as in duty bound ever pray—” Felter Scram made his mark. Received at the Executive Council Office on 4 Feb 1797 and read in Council on 25 Feb 1797. Ordered 200 acres granted to Hannah the wife of Val: Scram – certificate for family lands and discharge wanting. Read in Council again on 12 May 1797.
