“Humbly Sheweth—That your Petitioner removed into this Province last Fall and has been indulged with a location of two hundred acres of land by the honorable Land board. He begs leave to inform your Honors that his late Honored Father George Keefer, suffered loss of Property, imprisonment and every inconvenience the loyalists were subjected to in the late revolted Colonies during the Rebellion. He went to the British troops with Col Barton and served his corps until his death—That he never in his lifetime received any compensation for his losses, nor his full wages while in service as during that period he was a prisoner one year near […..], neither have his children nor any of his friends, since his decease. “Humbly Sheweth That your Petitioner is married to Eliazar Lundy and is the Daughter of George Keefer senr Deceased, a U. E. Loyalist who died in New York. Your Petitioner is of the full age of Twenty Two years and has never as yet Received any Lands from the Crown. Upper Canada Land Petition of John Kehoe dated at Newark (Niagara-on-the-Lake) on 6 Jun 1794

“Humbly Sheweth That your Petitioner served his Majesty five years and one half under Sir James Wallace for two years of which time he acted in the Capacity of Capt of the Magazine. That in the month of June next After the conclusion of the peace he was honorably discharged from the service. That your Petitioner was then put on the establishment of the Greenwich Hospital and that he has actually received one years pension. The remaining years are still due. Your Petitioner begs leave to approach your Honors on the present occasion and most humbly begs your Honors would as far as is consistent inter[cede] in his favour and that your Honors would condecend to point out some way in which he can receive his pension and likewise that your Honors would be pleased to grant him a location of land and as in duty bound will ever pray [Signed] John Kehoe” The Executive Council ordered that the Surveyor General do assign 200 acres to the petitioner. Upper Canada Land Petition of Burgoyne Kemp of Niagara, Carpenter dated in York [Toronto] on 19 Apr 1805

“That your Petitioner has been upwards of Sixteen Years in the Province and is desirous to occupy & Improve a Vacant Lot of land of the Crown, That he is prepared & undertakes in Case his Petition shall be favourably answered to pay within three Days from the date of the order of your Excellency in Council into the hands of His Majestys Receiver General of this Province, as well the whole of the fees, allowed by His Majesty to be charged on the Patent that is to Issue, as the fees of Survey, and That Your Petitioner will within the same period produce to the Clerk of the Executive Council the Receiver Generals Receipt for such fees, and Your Petitioner will in Twenty one Days from the date of the order attend the Secretary of the Province and take out such Deed—Wherefore Your Petitioner Prays that your Excellency may be pleased to Grant him Tow hundred acres of the waste Lands of the Crown under the Regulations of the 30th Decem 180, Subject to the Table of fees of the 6th July 1804, And as in Duty Bound Your Petitioner will ever Pray.” Signed for Burgoyne Kemp by William Dickson his Attorney. “Humbly Sheweth That your Petitioner was a British soldier in the French war in America before the Capture of Canada. That your Petr was friendly to the British during the contest with the States. That he came to this province immediately after the peace. That Major Campbell granted your Petr an order to locate five Hundred acres of land, but that order was unfortunately lost—That your Petr has twelve children eleven of whom are in this Province That your Petr at present owns no lands in the Province. May it therefore please your Excellency to grant your Petr twelve hundred acres of vacant land belonging to the Crown, or such a quantity as your Excellency may Judge sufficient for his situation in life; And your Petr as in duty bound shall ever Pray. “Humbly shews That your Petitioner served his Majesty upwards of twenty years as Surgeon in His Armies, is one of the oldest Settlers [in the] Province, and has been of the Magistracy many years. That his late Wife, was a Daughter of the late Sir William Johnson, whose services to his Country, and particularly to this Province are too well known to require a recitation, And in quiting the Colonies she lost a property to the value of £5000. That her mother Mrs Brant was very instrumental, (and at the particular request of Col. Bolton, the then commanding officer) in Retaining the six nations in the service of Government; when they were attempted to be corrupted by General Schuyler. That your Petitioner has reason to believe, that from the services of his Wife’s Relations and friends, this Province has been secured to Government. “The Humble Petition of Thomas Kinsey of the Township of Humberstone & County of Lincoln most Humbly Sheweth, That Your Petitioner from Pure motives of Loyalty, Came to this Province with intentions to become a Settler under the Protection of the British Government, and hath Improved and is now an Actual Settler on Lots No 14 & 15 in the Third Concession in the said Township of Humberstone, One hundred and twenty acres only of the said Lot No 15 falls to the Shair of Your Petitioner and what remains Clear of The Great Swamp of the said Lot No 14. That Your Petitioner has a wife & five Children in this Province and hath heretofore obtained a Ticket from the then existing Land Board for four hundred Acres. “That your Petitioner came into this place in the year 1777, and served in the Indian Department, your Petitioner has located on Twp hundred acres of land, on which he has improved and now liveth, and for which he has yet no kind of grant, —Your Petitioner is married to the daughter of Peter Kregor, who came in here the year after the war. Your Petitioner therefore humbly Prays that a grant of Three hundred Acres may be allowed him being the usual quantity allowed to People of his description and that same may be also allowed him for his wife such quantity as to your Excellency may appear meet and Your Petitioner will as in duty Bound Ever Pray [Signed] James Burns” Read in Council on 12 Jul.
