Recently we saw banded golden-crowned sparrows at the University of California, Santa Cruz Arboretum. The birds spend summer in western Canada/Alaska, and winter in California. Some of the birds have been coming to the Arboretum since 2003! Scientists are studying the sparrows to determine whether the brightness of their yellow crowns affects behavior.
