Recently we visited the Insect Museum at the University of California, Davis. The Bohart Museum of Entomology has the 7th largest insect collection in North America. On display were cases of colorful beetles and a description of criminal cases solved with "Insect Forensic Evidence". We especially enjoyed the live Insect Zoo featuring hissing cockroaches, giant millipedes, tarantulas, scorpions, and a giant lime green walking stick.
We also visited the Honeybee Research Facility and Bee Garden at the University of California, Davis. The garden was funded by Häagan-Dazs through their special edition “Vanilla Honey Bee Ice Cream”. A statue of a giant honeybee stands at the entrance to the Bee Garden. Visitors are encouraged to enjoy a walk among the flowers, and to appreciate how important bees are in pollinating our favorite fruits, nuts, and vegetables.
