Below are photos from a ranger-led elephant seal walk at Ano Nuevo State Park. The first picture shows the face of a male elephant seal. The second picture shows a side view. Notice his "elephant" nose and chest scars from fighting for the girls.
Recently scientists attached tracking devices to elephant seals. They were very surprised to discover that elephant seals have one of the longest animal migrations in the world! Scientists found that elephant seals travel in a loop that extends far out into the Pacific, north to Alaska, and south to the beaches they were born on.
