Flying fish are an amazing sight along the California coast. They can be seen "flying" for as long for 45 seconds over a 1/4 mile distance! They glide on wing-like fins while pumping their tails over the water. It is thought that they "fly" to escape predators.
In the early 1900's flying fish were studied as possible models for airplanes. These popular fish are celebrated every year at the world's only Flying Fish Festival at Catalina Island in southern California. The pictures below show logos for the festival and our local Flying Fish Grill.
