The picture below shows the beautiful Monterey coastline. Just offshore is the Monterey Submarine Canyon. The canyon is so deep that the Grand Canyon could fit inside it!

Only 2% of the Monterey Canyon has been studied. The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute uses a robot submarine to research this underwater wilderness. They have discovered several new species of marine life. You can log onto their web site to see the latest news at:
