Below are pictures of a decorator crab at the Seymour Marine Discovery Center in Santa Cruz (the crab is at the bottom of the first picture). Scientists performed an interesting experiment to see if the crab would use unusual materials (such as colored balls) to decorate his shell.
The crab did use the colored balls for decoration. Ordinarily he would use natural items such as seaweed and shells for camouflage. What a cool crab!
