The picture below shows the San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo Mission. The Carmel Mission was built in 1771, and is one of many built throughout California by the Spanish conquistadors. It has been restored, and church services are still active today. Cliff swallows build mud nests along the arches every year, and pigeons live up in the bell towers.
