Bodie is America's best preserved ghost town. This California State Historic Park is maintained as it was when the gold rush ended. Bodie was part of the Wild West. Saloons outnumbered churches 65 to 2. At its peak in 1879, Bodie's mines produced $34 million in gold. Bodie's wood is especially beautiful. The rich golden color of the pine wood comes from the strong UV light its high elevation. Below are pictures of Bodie's jail and a church.
