Today scientists confirmed that great white sharks sometimes enter San Francisco Bay. Great white sharks are one of the ocean's top predators - they can reach up to 15 feet long and weigh over 2 tons! The sharks migrate thousands of miles every year. They are most numerous off the California coast from September to November, and virtually gone by April to July.
When the sharks leave, they head to an area of ocean between Hawaii and Baja known as the "White Shark Cafe". The sharks' main food sources while in the Bay Area are seal and sea lion colonies at Ano Nuevo Island, Farallon Island, and Tomales Point/Point Reyes National Seashore.
