We recently visited the Schulz Museum/Snoopy's Home Ice Arena in Petaluma. We've always enjoyed the Peanuts comic strips - it is a fun place to visit!
There was a special exhibit on "Snoopy in Space", because Snoopy was a safety mascot for NASA in the 1960s. It was a great honor for Charles Schulz in 1969 when the crew of Apollo 10 nicknamed their command and lunar modules "Charlie Brown" and "Snoopy". The May flight was a dress rehearsal for the lunar landing in July 1969. Astronauts Thomas Stafford and Eugene Cernan piloted "Snoopy" within 50,000 feet of the lunar surface, while John Young orbited the moon in "Charlie Brown".
Snoopy was named the top dog for pop culture in 2009!
