Best Biscuits Ever
What you need:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 Tbsp. granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 4 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces and kept cold
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup milk or buttermilk
- Coarse salt
- A few tablespoons melted butter
Directions:
- Combine flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and cream of tartar.
- Cut cold butter into dry ingredients with a pastry cutter until it resembles pea-sized pieces.
- Add egg and milk and mix until just combined. The dough will still be sticky.
- Turn dough out onto a floured surface. Sprinkle flour on top of dough and knead 10 to 15 times.
- Pat or roll out gently until about 1 inch thick. Cut with a biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass. Repeat until you run out of dough. I always like to make an ugly biscuit with the last of the dough.
- Place biscuits onto a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
- Bake in a preheated 450 degree oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Immediately after removing from the oven, brush with melted butter and sprinkle coarse salt on top of each biscuit.
