Culture of Empathy Core Values and Principles:
Values: Important and lasting beliefs or ideals shared by the members of a culture about what is good or bad and desirable or undesirable.
Principle: a rule of conduct based on these values.
Empathy: Sensitivity to felt experience. Feeling into one's own and others' feelings and experiences.
Mutuality: In the circle, mutuality means following the structure provided to ensure everyone gets an equal chance to be heard to their satisfaction.
Curiosity: Curiosity about others and what is important to them.
Openness: Openness about oneself, and about different points of view.
Honesty: Honesty about saying what is important to you, even if it is different from other people’s ideas or feelings.
Inclusion: Inclusion recognizes the richness of diversity and takes action to include that diversity.
Equality: This is no hierarchy in a circle, everyone participates as a person, not as a role (Boss/employee, parent/child, etc.)
Common Humanity: A sense and recognition that at our core, people have the same feelings, desires and needs.
Mutual Responsibility: A recognition that everyone shares a part of the responsibility for the way things are.
Integrative: An ongoing integration of personal and social energies and feelings thorough empathic dialogue.
