Annelid Classes

Class Polychaeta

-The largest annelid class

-Mostly marine

-Head with eyes and tentacles

-Parapodia (leg like limbs) bear numerous setae (for sensing their environment)

Poisonous polychaete Hermodice carunculata running around on the open rock face. If it was not poisonous fish would eat them all!

Class Clitellata

-No parapodia

-No setae

-Clitellum functions in cocoon formation

Subclass Oligochaeta

-Primarily freshwater or terrestrial

-Earthworms

Subclass Hirudinea

-Bodies have 34 segments

-Anterior suckers

-Leeches

Mr. David Bird letting leeches suck his blood

Adopt a worm assignment

-Choose a species of worm, it can be from any of the three phyla (Platyhelminthes, Nematodes, or Annalida)

-You are going to draw that worm and write all about it. Write where it lives, what habitat it lives in, what it eats, what eats it, is it a parasite, if it is a parasite what is its host and how do they contract it, how does the worm benefit its ecosystem. Next class you are going to teach the class about the worm you adopted.

EVERYONE in the class has to choose a different species of worm. Here is the link to the worm signup sheet
