Zoology

Zoology is the study of animals!

Animalia is a Eukaryotic kingdom

Some animal characteristics

-Multicellular

-Have muscles and the ability to move (motile)

-Are heterotrophic (Cannot make their own food. Have to eat other organisms)

-Carnivore, Ditritivore, insectivore, Herbivore, Omnivore, etc.

Watch this short video on what is an animal. Create a box in your sketchbook, title it "What is an Animal?" and take notes. Include an image in your sketchbook.

Class Activity: (In Classroom)

Get into groups. We are going to do a little activity about animals

In your group you are going to write down the name of an animal on a post-it note

-Do this for 16 animals

-Once every group is done come place each of your post-its under the group the animal belongs to.

-Now looking at our distribution of animals we are going to estimate how many species exist in each of the groups

-Time for the answers

-By the end of this semester you will be experts on all of these groups of animals

(Online)

In your breakout rooms you are going to create a collaborative poster. On that poster I want you to write down the names of 16 animals. Then we will come back to the main room and look at each poster. Together we will categorize the animals.
