Each summer Providence High School offers a STEM camp. The camp incorporates Science Technology Engineering and Math around a central theme. Each year the theme changes. This year's theme was The Science of Go: a history of transportation. Week one was the steam engine and a field trip to the Travel Town Train Museum. Week two was the combustion engine and a field trip to the Peterson Automotive Museum. Week three was Rockets and a field trip to El Mirage to launch rockets. The last week was airplanes and a field trip to the California Science Center. During the four weeks the students built their own two cylinder, 4 cylinder, and 8 cylinder engines. The students also built their own gliders which were flown in the school gym. The most exciting and challenging project was the students building their own model rockets. Here is a video of the STEM campers launching their own rockets at the El Mirage desert.
