Properties of Water

-The difference between a solid, liquid, and gas

-Why water is so special.

-Water is less dense when it is a solid than when it is a liquid

-Without this feature the world would be a very different place

-High specific heat.

It takes a lot of energy to change the state of water. This helps us cool down.

-Cohesion and adhesion

How do trees drink? How can a tree with no muscles get water from the ground all the way up to the top of the leaves?

-Adhesion penny game.

Get in groups of 2. You will be using a pippet to place drops of water on the top of a penny. Count the drops. We will see which group places the most drops of water on the penny without it spilling over. First guess how many drops you can place, then try it.
