Megan Young does comedy in GMA’s Conan My Beautician

Miss World 2013 and Kapuso actress Megan Young unleashes a comedic side to her in the upcoming GMA show, Conan My Beautician.

“I don’t think I remember doing a comedy show ever in my whole career so that’s a big thing for me,” revealed Megan, who started her showbiz career on GMA.

“I’ve done drama. I’ve done yung mga [the] kilig-kilig but never comedy. It’s exciting, it’s fun, and I’m looking very much forward to it,” she added.

GMA pairs Megan with talented Kapuso actor-dancer Mark Herras in the new comedy series, which will air beginning July 3 on GMA Pinoy TV.

Here, she plays Ava, a bride whom Conan (Mark) was supposed to work on in a make-up gig, but he ends up falling in love with her.

Joining the cast are Lotlot De Leon, Jay Manalo, Balang (You Tube Video Sensation who guested on Ellen De Generes), Chlaui Malayao (from “Little Nanay”), Vangie Labalan, and Antonette Garcia.

Fun, light, and definitely for the whole family, this male Cinderella love story-comedy is penned by award-winning writers, headed by Rody Vera and Zig Dulay; and directed by Adolf Alix Jr. with Rember Gelera.

“Conan My Beautician” is one of GMA’s offerings for its 66th anniversary. (30)

Megan Young says she can relate to her role as Mari Mar

Kinilig ako, siyempre. It’s a big project,” reveals Kapuso actress Megan Young when asked about her reaction upon learning that she’s going to breathe new life to the well-loved character of Mari Mar.

Despite feeling nervous, the Kapuso actress doesn’t let the nerves get to her and instead feels excited as she prepares for the role, “Acting wise, nagwo-workshop na kami nila Tom [Rodriguez] and Lauren [Young]. May dance and diving lessons din parasiyempremasmagawanatinng tama. Excited lang talaga ako, sine-set aside ko na lang ang kaba.”

Megan also admitted that she can relate to the character of Mari Mar. In an interview, Megan recalls her experience before she was hailed as Miss World 2013, “Si Mari Mar kasi she’s like any other Pinay who strive for the best.”

“Isa siyang hardworker, gagawin niya ang lahat para makuha ang mga pangarap niya. Ganoon din ako, kahit sinabi ng iba dati na baka matalo ako sa pageant… I put that aside kasi ito ang gusto ko. Manalo, matalo at least nagawako. Si Mari Mar ganoon din na kahit mag-fail siya, in the end she’ll make sure na ‘yung failure na ‘yun ay magiging encouragement sa kanya to strive for the better,” Megan says.

Under the helm of Dominic Zapata, Mari Mar is set to thrill the viewers this August on GMA. It will air worldwide on GMA’s flagship international channel, GMA Pinoy TV. (30)

Megan Young returns to the Kapuso Network

Starstruck II alumna and Miss World 2013 Megan Young returns to her home network as she inked a one-year exclusive contract with GMA Network recently (March 31).

Present during the contract signing were GMA Network’s Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon; President and COO Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr.; Entertainment TV's Senior Vice President Lilybeth G. Rasonable; Vice President for Entertainment TV Marivin T. Arayata; Vice President for Drama Productions Redgie Acuña-Magno; Senior Assistant Vice President for Alternative Productions Gigi Santiago-Lara; Assistant Vice President for Drama Productions Cheryl Ching-Sy; and Ms. World Philippines Vice Chairman & agent Arnold Vegafria.

The beauty queen revealed her delight as she will be active again in showbiz with hosting stints and soap opera roles. “Masaya akong nagbabalik dahil I’ve grown so much as a person, as an artist, and now nandito na ulit ako, I can offer the people a better version of myself,” claims Megan. [I’m happy to be back because I’ve grown so much as a person, as an artist, and now that I’m back, I can offer the people a better version of myself.]

Megan also talked about her relationship with fellow artists and staff, and how she misses most of those who have supported her from the start of her career. She also mentioned that she wants to go back to acting, “Namiss ko rin ang pag-act, kasi sa Miss World, hindi ka naman nag-a-act doon. Isa’t kalahating taon din akong nag-stop, kasi kailangan siyempre yung concentration ko nasa Miss World. Pero ngayong nagbabalik, kailangan ko naman ulit mag-prepare for acting, kasi matagal din akong nawala.” [I missed this because in Miss World, you’re not “acting.” I stopped for one and a half years because my concentration was focused on Miss World. But now that I’ve returned, I have to prepare myself again for acting because I was gone for a long time.]

During the contract signing held at the Boardroom of GMA Network, Atty. Gozon expressed his genuine support for Megan, “We are very glad and proud and honoured na tayo ang pinili ni Miss World. Kaya maski saan siya nakarating, ang puso niya nasa Kapuso pa rin. At ang puso natin, nasa kanya rin. So we are lining up many things for Megan to do.” [We are very glad and proud and honoured that Miss World chose GMA. No matter where she goes, her heart is still with the Kapuso Network. And our hearts are with her as well. So we are lining up many things for Megan to do.”]

Mr. Duavit, in turn, shared that he is both glad and excited now that Megan is back with the Kapuso Network, “Nakakatuwa kapag ang isang nagsimula bilang Kapuso ay nagbabalik bilang Kapuso. And in Megan’s case, sa mga dumaang panahon, bukod sa Miss World, she also embodies or personifies certain values that are consistent with ours. So we’re very excited. Megan is versatile, she’s very professional at meron ng mga nakahanay na mga proyekto para sa kanya. So, welcome back kapuso, we’re all very proud of you. And very happy you’re back home.” [It is heartwarming when one starts out as a Kapuso and returns as a Kapuso. And in Megan’s case, in the time that has passed, aside from Miss World, she also embodies or personifies certain values that are consistent with ours. So we’re very excited. Megan is versatile, she’s very professional and we’ve already lined up projects for her. So welcome back, Kapuso, we’re all very proud of you. And very happy you’re back home.”]

Rasonable revealed some of Megan’s upcoming projects this year, “She will be co-hosting StarStruck with Dingdong Dantes, so that’s the first big project. And then there’s another one coming up. It’s a big primetime soap, but we’ll announce it when the time comes.” (30)
