TFC@theMovies Unveils “Ignacio De Loyola”, the Story
of the First Jesuit, in theaters today in U.S. & Canada
Acclaimed film to screen in Europe starting September 4
TFC@theMovies is pleased to bring to the theaters starting today in North America the Filipino-made film, Ignacio De Loyola, a full-length independent feature film about St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus. It is an incisive and thrilling look at the life of the man behind the legend, following his transformation from a brash, impulsive youth obsessed with women and sword-fighting to the masterful, charismatic leader of an order that would change the face of Christendom forever.
Produced by Jesuit Communications (JesCom) in the Philippines, the film’s ambition and scope is unrivalled in the Filipino cinematic landscape. It also holds the distinction of being the first Filipino film to be screened in the Vatican.
Critics are singing praise about the movie:
“The biggest asset of Paolo Dy’s Ignacio De Loyola is not its ambition in scope and embellishment. It is its earnestness. The film, which concentrates on the beginnings of Iñigo de Loyola’s vocation as the first Jesuit, is a daring piece of work.” – Oggs Cruz, Rappler.com
“Truly amazing is how the movie translates this inner struggle (Iñigo’s radical transformation), this search for faith and meaning, in human terms that make it compelling, dramatic, and moving. I must confess that I haven’t seen a spiritual search depicted so viscerally and familiarly.” – Rina Jimenez-David, Inquirer.net
Multi-awarded freelance film and commercial director Paolo Dy makes his feature film directorial debut with Ignacio De Loyola. He also wrote the screenplay. Collaborating director is actress-writer Cathy Azanza. Musical maestro Ryan Cayabyab provided the musical score. Shot entirely in Spain, the cast is led by Spanish actor Andreas Muñoz who played the title role.
“With the world’s current situation, we believe that Ignacio De Loyola is more relevant than ever. We would greatly appreciate if you would encourage your community to experience the story about the world’s first Jesuit,” said ABS-CBN Global Head of Theatricals John-D Lazatin.
The movie is showing starting today in U.S. and Canada. Come September 4, Ignacio De Loyola will be screened in Europe. For those organizations interested in private screenings, please email Gemma_Brion@abs-cbn.com or Cherry_Laraya@abs-cbn.com
