Kylie Padilla steps into the spotlight anew via GMA Pinoy TV’s
“The Good Daughter”
Moving beyond the shadow of her famous actor-dad, Kylie Padilla has started to carve a name in the industry all on her own. Her first solo project, Blusang Itim, was such a success that GMA Network – Philippines ’ Number 1 broadcasting company – is once again banking on the pretty and talented young star as she topbills the new television drama, “The Good Daughter”. The program will premiere worldwide on February 17 on the network's flagship international channel, GMA Pinoy TV.
In her new project, Kylie plays Bea, a sweet yet assertive teenager who meets a turning point in her life when her mother dies and her father marries someone she disapproves of. As she learns of her stepmother’s true intentions, Bea is forced to reveal a tougher side to her personality and fight for the sake of her family.
Kylie prepared long and hard for her new show clocking in long hours in workshops and internalizing her role as Bea. But despite the pressure, Kylie, who just turned 19 last January 25, is thankful for this opportunity and embraces the challenges and pressure that comes with being a full-fledged drama actress.
She is joined by a pool of reputable actors led by Raymond Bagatsing who plays the role of Rico, Bea’s father and owner of a successful coffee shop business; Alicia Mayer as Sharon, Rico’s first love and Bea’s step-mother; and Glydel Mercado as Tina, Bea’s mother, who will suffer a painful death in the story.
Playing equally challenging roles are Rocco Nacino as Darwin, Sharon’s son from her first husband and Bea’s love interest; LJ Reyes as Frances, Darwin’s sister and another villain in the story; Angelie Nicole Sanoy as Julia, Sharon’s daughter with Rico, who holds the key to the real reason behind Tina’s death; and introducing the newest Kapuso actress, Max Collins, who will play an important role as Ziri, Bea’s best friend and the third person in the love triangle with Bea and Darwin.
Completing the cast are Dion Ignacio as Paul , Frances ’ submissive boyfriend; Ervic Vijandre as Mario, an aspiring model and a barista at Rico’s café; and Ms. Luz Valdez as Lola Lourdes, Bea’s doting grandmother.
In “The Good Daughter”, Bea (Kylie Padilla) seems to have the perfect life – having a family who adores and provides her every need – until Sharon (Alicia Mayer) and her 10-year old daughter Julia (Angelie Nicole Sanoy) appear at her 18th birthday party and introduce themselves as her father’s (Raymond Bagatsing) second family.
Distraught, Bea’s mother Tina (Glydel Mercado) leaves the venue of the party in tears and unfortunately meets an accident when an explosion takes place in the building, which also puts at risk Sharon and Julia.
While Tina agonizes in pain, Sharon sees this as an opportunity to replace the former in Rico’s life leading her to kill Tina. As Bea weeps for her mother’s demise, she puts the blame on her father, who is then being pressured by Sharon to marry her or else she and her daughter will leave the country for good. Rico, torn between Bea’s disapproval and the possibility of building a new family with Sharon , eventually gives in to Sharon ’s demands.
As Sharon assumes the role of Rico’s new wife, her true colors further surface as she mistreats Bea behind Rico’s back. Feeling helpless and alone more than ever, Bea runs away from home and travels to her grandmother’s province.
However, as Bea begins to find comfort in the arms of her Lola Lourdes (Luz Valdez), she discovers that her father is gravely ill and that Sharon has started to take over the company. More than that, she uncovers more of her stepmother’s evil deeds, including the real reason why her mother died, prompting her to return home and reunite with her father.
As she comes to face with the woman who has done her family wrong, how will Bea protect her father and the business that is also rightfully hers? Can peace still be restored in a home that was once shattered by dishonesty and spite?
The Good Daughter is another premium creation by the GMA Drama Group headed by GMA VP for drama Lilybeth G. Rasonable, AVP for Drama Redgie Acuña Magno, and Program Manager Helen Rose S. Sese. This is likewise Dingdong and Marian’s fifth collaboration with the network after starring in Marimar, Dyesebel, Ang Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang and Endless Love.

Following her stint in the Network’s afternoon prime soaps, Ms. Nova lends her acting chops in her very first primetime program as she plays an offbeat role as Lola Inggay, Benjie’s drunkard grandmother. Left all alone with nothing and no one to care for them after her mother eloped with another man, Sharina and her younger sister Monica must now live and work under the strict rules of their aunt Elsa and her daughter Ginella.
Life has been unbearable for the two sisters, but Sharina does not give up in despair, and instead strive to get an education through the help of Lily, played by Rio Locsin in a special guest role, a kind-hearted teacher who treats Sharina like her own daughter.
Tragedy strikes Sharina’s world once again when Lily passes away. Much to her surprise, Lily entrusted her small business including her house to Sharina. So, together with her sister Monica, Sharina decides to move in to Lily’s house and start a new life.
One day, Sharina sees Lily’s old painting of a man inside her ancestral house. She also gets hold of Lily’s diary and learns of her encounter with a man who saved her from an accident. Lily fell in love with this mysterious person and waited to be reunited with him until her last breath.
Completely intrigued with the identity of the good-looking man on the canvas, Sharina could not get the face of the man out of her mind and it repeatedly haunts her dreams every night. Until she meets an accident and Sharina finally comes face to face with the mystifying being in the painting. The man saves her from death and Sharina kisses him before he disappears.
In the divine realm of angels, one strict rule applies to every “sundo”: that no angel of death can fall in love with a human being. In such case, Arlan has freely chosen to give up his immortal state when he genuinely kissed Sharina back.
Meanwhile, when Sharina wakes up, she searches for her rescuer and falls in love with him. Unknown to her, the man in the painting and her rescuer is one and the same person.
But by a startling twist of fate, Sharina and her “mystery” man’s paths entwines as she meets Benjie, a playboy and a member of a small-time syndicate. The angel Arlan, who has been punished and banished to earth to become a mortal, transfers his soul into Benjie’s body and equally falls in love with Sharina. Now, Arlan must live a life of a mortal and redeem himself to go back to heaven.
As Sharina yearns to be united with her mystery man, she will face many struggles after discovering his real identity as a thief and gangster. Now trapped in Benjie’s body, Arlan must learn how to feel human emotions and endure the day to day life of a normal human being.
Now that the two fated lovers are reunited, how will Sharina accept the truth about Benjie’s violent and shady past as a criminal? How will the fallen angel Arlan cope with his newfound life as Benjie, as he deals with the various temptations and struggles of being a human being?
As the two unlikely lovers enter an earthly relationship, will Arlan succeed in fulfilling his mission of saving his beloved Sharina with his second chance at life, and at love? Will our star-crossed lovers realize their destiny to once and for all be together even in the next lifetime? Will their love story and commitment to be together last till eternity? Is Sharina willing to commit sins for the sake of her loved ones? Will Arlan be willing to go to hell and back to save his beloved Sharina?
Under the helm of Director Dominic Zapata with original concept by RJ Nuevas, My Beloved showcases a beautiful and timeless tale of undying love between two people of two different worlds. It is a unique traditional drama that stands out for its excellent character portrayals and heart-thumping scenes from beginning to end with top notch production values that naturally highlights the series’ many compelling moments. BIRITERA takes centerstage on GMA Pinoy TV beginning February 8
GMA Pinoy TV sets the stage for another original and groundbreaking offering as it launches its newest creation, Biritera, on February 8. The program combines music with drama and tackles the highs and lows in the colorful world of the music industry.
In this new show, lead stars Dennis Trillo and Glaiza de Castro get to showcase not just their acting abilities, but also their talent in singing as they assume the roles of Andrei, the lead vocalist of the band called The Bridge, and Mikaela, a drummer/singer, respectively.
Biritera also proudly introduces GMA Network’s newest child discovery, Roseanne, who plays the role of an aspiring young singer of the same name. As her character embarks on an emotional journey from becoming an amateur singer to a famous biritera,Roseanne discovers many things about her roots, her past, and her real identity.
The story takes off from the death of the reigning biritera, which sends Mr. D (Ryan Eigenmann), a respected talent manager, into a frantic search for an immediate replacement.
Upon receiving an invitation to judge in a provincial singing search, Mr. D also brings along Andrei (Dennis Trillo), who then finds himself drawn to one particular contestant, Roseanne (Roseanne Magan). However, Roseanne ends up losing the competition to Barbie (Sweet Ramos), Roseanne’s rival, much to Andrei’s disappointment.
But no one is more disappointed than Roseanne who wants to succeed as a singer so she can help her adoptive mother Remy (Angelika dela Cruz). Remy, on the other hand, disapproves of her daughter’s dream and would rather see her concentrate on her education.
Unknown to them, Andrei uploads a video of Roseanne taken during the competition. As fate would have it, the video goes viral making Roseanne an instant internet sensation and attracting talent scouts including Mr. D.
Remy, however, remains adamant in discouraging Roseanne to pursue her dream of becoming a professional singer. But despite how firm she is, Remy finally gives in when Jo (Rich Asuncion), Roseanne’s aunt, turns up after recognizing Roseanne as her sister Carmela’s (Claudine Baretto) daughter. Jo convinces Remy to allow Roseanne to try her luck in the industry making Remy believe that Jo has Roseanne’s best interest at heart.
As Roseanne begins her quest towards becoming a full-fledged biritera, Remy becomes more concerned of her daughter’s welfare as Jo takes over Roseanne’s life. Andrei also shares the same sentiment, as he feels guilty for prodding Mr. D into managing Roseanne, who seems to be taking on too much too soon only to become successful.
How will Roseanne cope with the demands brought about by her newfound career? Will she eventually make it to the top or will she succumb to the pressure before she can even see her dreams come true? GMA Network leads national television ratings this November
Nationwide ratings winner GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) further hiked its lead in television ratings versus competitors ABS-CBN and TV5 from October to November, according to broadcast industry’s most trusted ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.
Based on full November data (November 27 to 30 based on overnight readings), GMA remained the number one free-to-air television channel with 37.5 total day average household audience share points, ahead of ABS-CBN’s 29.3 points by an imposing 8.2 points; and much higher than TV5’s 15.
GMA was notably the only TV station that grew its total day household audience share performance across all areas this November relative to the previous month.
Based on an estimated five viewers per household, GMA’s margins translate to almost 1.5 million more viewers from all over the country over ABS-CBN; and 4.2 million more viewers over TV5.
In the list of overall top 30 programs, GMA’s programs outnumbered ABS-CBN’s. There were 16 Kapuso programs in the list with the historic boxing special Pacquiao-Marquez III: World Welterweight Championshipclinching the top spot.
GMA especially made remarkable nationwide ratings performance in both daytime and afternoon blocks, where it left behind competitors by double digit margins.
In Urban Luzon, which houses 77 percent of total television households nationwide, GMA hit 41.3 total day audience share points, higher than ABS-CBN’s 25 by 16.3 points; and ahead of TV5’s 15.5 by 25.8 points.
The margins translate to 2.3 million more viewers from the said area attuned to GMA over ABS-CBN; and 3.7 million more viewers over TV5.
In the Kapuso bailiwick Mega Manila, which comprises 58 percent of total television households nationwide, GMA registered 42.2 share points, 18.9 points ahead of ABS-CBN’s 23.3 points; 25.8 points away from TV5’s 16.4 points.
The figures translate to GMA having two million more viewers over ABS-CBN; and 2.8 million more viewers over TV5.
There were 21 GMA programs in the list of overall top 30 programs in Urban Luzon; while 22 GMA programs made it to the same list in Mega Manila. The Pacquiao-Marquez III: World Welterweight Championship led all programs in both rosters. In the top 10 list, GMA almost made a clean sweep with eight entries in Mega Manila, and seven in Urban Luzon.
Other GMA programs that showed consistent performance in both areas include the longest running noontime show Eat Bulaga, banner newscast 24 Oras, primetime shows Amaya, Iglot, Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, andMunting Heredera.
The Nielsen TV Audience Measurement used by GMA is used by 21 companies including two other local networks, namely, TV5 and Solar Entertainment; Faulkner Media; CBN Asia; 13 advertising agencies and three regional clients. On the other hand, ABS-CBN is the only major local TV network reportedly subscribing to Kantar Media, formerly known as TNS.
In Mega Manila alone, the Nielsen TV Audience Measurement has a sample size of 880 homes as compared to Kantar Media’s 770 homes. Nationwide, Nielsen has a total sample size of 2,005 homes compared to the lower sample size of 1,370 utilized by Kantar Media.

GMA Pinoy TV bags 2 prestigious awards for Marketing Excellence
GMA Network’s flagship international channel GMA Pinoy TV continues to uphold excellence in marketing the Kapuso brand, and this is again proven by two valuable awards from the 2011 Excellence in Multicultural Marketing Awards (EMMA) of the National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC).
The EMMA recognizes the members of the television cable industry and their efforts in reaching different cultural segments through their creative and innovative marketing strategies including print, TV commercials, and other marketing materials.
Landing 2nd Places in Marketing Tactics are GMA Pinoy TV’s “Kapuso Abroad” magazine for the Grassroots category and “Manila Jeepneys” for Diversity Awareness.
The “Kapuso Abroad” is GMA International’s glossy magazine targeting Filipinos all around the globe to keep them updated about their favorite Kapuso stars and provide them more stories behind the most anticipated programs from the Philippines as delivered by the two international channels, and soon by the third international, all Filipino news channel, GMA News TV International.
The magazine has become a popular and favorite item distributed in Filipino community events, in consulate offices, and in Filipino establishments. It has also proven to be a very useful tool for the call center representatives of GMA Pinoy TV and GMA Life TV channel carriers when offering subscription opportunities to their customers.
Because of its popularity, GMA International has taken the next step that is to produce the digital counterpart of “Kapuso Abroad” so that it is made available to its online audiences. The magazine, which can now be viewed online via www.gmapinoytv.com, is also a venue for readers to know about the latest events and activities of the Filipino communities worldwide, providing them the opportunity to connect with their kababayans wherever they may be.
Meanwhile, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, GMA Pinoy TV partnered with the non-government organization Tahanang Walang Hagdanan – the Filipino counterpart of House with No Steps in Australia – in producing items that promoted the international channels and helped raise funds for its orthopedically handicapped members as well.
The “Manila Jeepneys” – hundreds of miniature wooden replicas of the iconic Pinoy vehicle, meticulously crafted by the TWH members – became a means for GMA International to contribute in raising money for the livelihood, medical, and educational efforts of the group. Part of the sales of the wooden jeepneys was also allocated for the special education program for children with special needs.
Through these collectible items, the representatives of the channel carriers acquired a better understanding and appreciation of the Filipino culture and its corresponding market.
“We are very honored that a renowned body like NAMIC has again recognized our efforts, this time for the ‘Kapuso Abroad’ magazine, which continues to be an effective communication tool among Filipinos living abroad, and the ‘Manila Jeepneys,’ which boast highly of the Pinoy identity. This inspires us to continue reaching out to our kababayans in the country and around the world by tapping means which do not only speak of Pinoy creativity and innovativeness, but also that which are relevant to the larger community,” shares Joseph T. Francia, Vice President and Head of Operations for GMA International.
This is actually the third year that GMA Pinoy TV was cited by NAMIC. In 2006, the “Comcast San Francisco Bay Area GMA Pinoy TV Launch” was awarded 1st place in the Case Study Cable category for being “the most successful cable network launch in Comcast Bay Area history, dramatically exceeding goals.” The Kapuso international channel also bagged the 1st place award that same year in Marketing Tactics for Network Internet/New Media category for its website www.gmapinoytv.com. And just last 2010, GMA Pinoy TV, together with GMA Life TV, again landed 1st Place in Direct Mail Marketing Tactics for “Time Warner GMA Pinoy TV and GMA Life TV launch postcard” and 2nd Places in both Direct Mail and Print Marketing Tactics for “Comcast GMA Life TV Upsell.”
The awarding ceremony for the 2011 EMMA is set to take place during the 25th Annual Conference of NAMIC on October 5 at Hilton New York . (30)
