Blockbuster KimXi tandem returns with Ai Ai in the wacky "Past Tense"

TFC@theMovies brings current number one Filipino comedy film to 38 theatres in the U.S. and 13 in Canada starting December 5

REDWOOD SHORES, CA, December 4, 2014 – The last time Kim Chiu and Xian Lim teamed up on the big screen under award-winning director Mae Cruz Alviar- which was just in early 2014 - their film Bride for Rent grossed over P326 million in the Philippine box office. Versatile comedienne Ai Ai de las Alas co-starred in Sisterakas, an entry of ABS-CBN Star Cinema to the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival, which earned over P391 million. These two films are now the 7th and 4th, respectively, highest grossing films of all time in Philippine cinema history.

TFC@theMovies is giving moviegoers in North America the holiday gift of a jolly ho-ho-ho and a barrel of ha-ha-ha when it brings anew director Cruz-Alviar, the loveteam known as "KimXi" and the genius zaniness of De las Alas in a wild comedy ride of a movie called, Past Tense, to 38 theatres in the U.S. and 13 in Canada, starting this Friday, December 5.

"This is a 'feel good' time for every member of the family, a season of joy and laughter," said ABS-CBN Global Head of Theatricals John-D Lazatin. "With this winning team, viewers will find themselves rolling on the floor with the laugh-a-minute barrage of jokes, comedic characters and situations. The beauty of this is you can tell that the artists are immensely enjoying themselves in this movie and that energy is contagious. This is a true laugh trip. It's a fun way for TFC@themovies to wrap up 2014."

Can You Change The Past Without Messing It Up Further?

This fresh rom-com presents the story of Belle (De Las Alas) in 2034 who wakes up after being in a coma for 20 years. The last thing she remembers is getting into an accident while chasing after her boyfriend Carlos (Daniel Matsunaga) to apologize. She learns that Carlos died the same night that she got into an accident. Belle couldn’t believe how her life turned out.

Belle was given a chance by Papa Time (Benjie Paras) to time travel to 2014 to correct her mistakes, but as the 2034 version of herself. In doing so, she finds out things that make her decide to change the course of the past. First, she learns that Carlos is a bad guy for her after all and that her best friend Babs (Lim) is in love with her. She then decides to make her younger self (Chiu - yes, no kidding) fall in love with Babs hoping to get Carlos out of the picture and to avoid the accident.

In the process, things go out of her control, putting Belle's future life at risk of becoming even worse.

Well-known movie critic Isah V. Red wrote: "Past Tense is a film about the consequences people have to deal with, the changes they have to face, and the chances they have to give based on the many choices that have to make in their lifetimes. Past Tense features the winning combination of the country’s ace comedienne, a certified blockbuster director, and a love team that is loved and adored by millions."

Catch Kim Chiu, Xian Lim, Ai Ai de las Alas and the complete crazy cast of Past Tense starting this Friday, December 5. For a complete theater list, visit http://www.tfc-usa.com/atthemovies/

TFC "GALING NG FILIPINO" MUSIC PROFILE: The Music Behind "EDSA Woolworth"featuring Summer Breeze

TFC@theMovies presents its second film offering in time for Thanksgiving; Catch EDSA Woolworth in 49 theatres in US & Canada starting this Friday, Nov 14

One of the many little things that will linger in the minds of the moviegoers when they watch TFC@theMovies' second film offering, EDSA Woolworth, is the music soundtrack. There are four Filipino American artists whose original works are featured in this precious and unique family movie for the holidays. One of them is Summer Breeze a.k.a. producer-singer-songwriter-musician Amiel Maquilan, based in South San Francisco, California, whose song, "Dressing Room (Blessed Me With You)", is a beautiful, memorable, and proudly Filipino composition that will mesmerize viewers of said movie.

Summer Breeze is a youtube sensation managed by The Luna Co. His music videos, showing acoustic soul, pop, jazz and R&B influences, have drawn over 6 million views combined on YouTube, which propelled him to travel and perform in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Oregon, the Midwest, Canada and the Philippines. He has shared the stage with the Bay Area's number one FilAm R&B group Legaci (who performed as back-up singers for Justin Bieber) and with international superstars, Black Eyed Peas.

On his Facebook page, it says that "his drive for music increases day by day and continually works even harder to spread his messages across the nation. He says, 'I just want to use the gift that God has given me with all my might and to inspire those who are uninspired.'"

Listen and sing along with Summer Breeze when his song, "Dressing Room (Blessed Me With You)", plays on TFC@theMovies' EDSA Woolworth, showing this Friday, November 14, in 49 theatres in US & Canada.

The song, "Dressing Room (Blessed Me With You)", is available on iTunes.

The video is on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dazA3bYgA0Q. The lyrics below:

Dressing Room (Blessed Me With You)

"The best things in life are found when you're not looking." - Amiel Maquilan

saw her smile the first time the other day

never let opportunity slip away

caught her all alone in the dressing room

told her that "i really love your hair"

then began to swoon

saw her eyes and began to stare

the whole world came to stop like no ones there

they say it's windows to the soul

pure and beautiful

what's this feeling in my heart

cupid shot a dart

doesn't take a day to recognize sunshine

give me all your trust and i'll give you all of my time

God put you in my plans today

You....

you're the reason why i smile didn't expect to come

through...

from the feeling in my heart it's a brand new start with

you....

God put you in my life and my dreams are coming

true....

i was lonely in my life so He blessed me with

you....

memories, silly things, did today

violins, guitar strings start to play

standing next to me while you smile some more

i can take you downtown we'll explore the world

city lights and Bernal Heights, she likes that

long walks and funny talks come back

feeling so complete i begin to see

that everything we do is like a movie scene

doesn't take a day to recognize sunshine

give me all your trust and i'll give you all of my time.

God put you in my plans today.

LOS ANGELES, CA, October 15, 2014 – When asked to describe in one word what ASAP Live in LA would be at the packed press conference that was livestreamed on TFC.tv and TFC20.com/ASAP last October 8 from the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, the following cast members said:

Gerald Anderson: “Awesome!”

Maja Salvador: “Spectacular!”

Yeng Constantino:Astig!” (Super cool!)

Bamboo: “Class Act.”

Zsa Zsa Padilla: “Powerful.”

Martin Nievera: “Unforgettable.”

Enchong Dee: “Memorable.”

Kathryn Bernardo: “Fun!”

Daniel Padilla: “Intense!”

Gary Valenciano: “I wanted to add on to what everyone said and it has to do with why ASAP is where it is today. You have a bunch of artists here and there are many more artists out there. But there is a reason why we are chosen to be part of this show. I think that God has a great plan for why we are a part of this show. So, the word I’m going to choose is ‘blessed’.”

Indeed, the words of TFC’s 20th Anniversary Ambassador Valenciano and his nine press con co-panelists were veritable harbingers of what ASAP Live in LA last October 11 turned out to be.

Not the power-packed joint concert of superstars Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull in Staples Center, or the multi-cultural, multi-act Super Sonico Festival brought by the teams of LAMC and Coachella to Shrine Auditorium, or the touring and local culinary stars of James Beard Foundation’s Taste Los Angeles in Vibiana could distract 12,000 Filipino fans from trooping to historic Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena to take part in the day-long festivities climaxed by a one-of-a-kind three-hour, live, world-class Filipino entertainment.

Critically acclaimed “The Trial” kicks off exciting Fall movie season for TFC@theMovies this Friday

Must-see court drama with John Lloyd Cruz, Gretchen Barretto, Richard Gomez, Enrique Gil & Jessy Mendiola screens in US and Canada starting October 24

LOS ANGELES, CA, October 23, 2014 – The reviews for ABS-CBN Star Cinema’s latest offering on its 20th year, The Trial, are in, and the verdict is a victory for Philippine cinema.

A festival-worthy piece that may usher in a new age for mainstream Philippine cinema,” raved Julia Allende of pep.ph.

An emotionally involving legal drama presented with sufficient flair and built around the crackerjack portrayal of John Lloyd Cruz as a 27-year-old simpleton, Ronald Jimenez Jr., accused of raping his tutor, Bessie Buenaventura (Jessy Mendiola),” praised Rito P. Asilo of Inquirer.net.

At a time when romantic and family comedies are playing jump ball with the box-office crown, Star Cinema and director Chito Roño make a surprising gamble on a film that’s neither one nor the other… it’s a promising step towards seeing more films in the name of originality, regardless of genre,” said Zig Marasigan in his review on rappler.com.

Indeed, with a stream of record-breaking box office triumphs of romantic and family comedies and love triangles, the country’s premier film outfit braved the road less travelled with a compelling court drama that involves a complicated and odd nexus of characters and tackles the sensitive topics of rape, the mentally handicapped, gay parents, marital problems, social media abuse and the country’s justice system.

To pull this off, it takes the caliber of award-winning director Chito Roño, the story and screenplay by Ricky Lee, Kriz G. Gazmen and Enrico Santos, and the sterling cast led by John Lloyd Cruz, Gretchen Barretto, Richard Gomez, Enrique Gil, Jessy Mendiola, Sylvia Sanchez, Vivian Velez, Vincent De Jesus, Benjamin Alves, among others.

“After its opening in the Philippines, The Trial is making critics think, triggering moviegoers to talk and discuss the film, and creating buzz for film awards. They say fall is the season in North America to bring in the good stuff, the movies of serious value and content. As part of TFC’s and Star Cinema’s 20th anniversary, TFC@theMovies couldn’t have chosen a better film offering to kick off its fall movie season here with The Trial. It is simply a must-see,” said ABS-CBN Global Head of Theatricals John-D Lazatin.

A Curious Case: Flaws and Secrets

The marriage of lawyer JULIAN (Richard Gomez) and developmental psychologist AMANDA (Gretchen Barretto) is already crumbling. Aggravated by the tragic death of their only son, their relationship now is beyond any chance of mending.

That chance came when one day Julian and Amanda encounter a curious case. RONALD (John Lloyd Cruz), a person with intellectual disability, is accused of raping the niece of a renowned university head, BESSY (Jessy Mendiola). The already curious case becomes more intriguing when they learn that Ronald was their son’s best buddy.

Amanda is hired by Bessy’s camp to look into Ronald to prove his lucidity and intention – hence, implicating him of the crime. However, as she tries to get to know him, the truth about Ronald and his relationship with Bessy and her deceased son all unfold before her. Believing that Ronald could have not committed the crime, she withdraws from Bessy’s camp and decides to help him.

Working together, Julian and Amanda exert every possible effort to acquit Ronald of the crime. Little do they know that his case would mean facing the truth about their broken family – something they have forever lied to themselves about.

“Memorable,” said ABS-CBN North America Managing Director Olivia De Jesus. “The Trial is a film that reels you in as a moviegoer and makes you ask what would you have done if you were one of the characters? In the end, it will make you look into yourself, your own relationships with your family and with people seen as ‘different’ by society.”

Mario Maurer, Erich Gonzales explore culture clash and chemistry

in "Suddenly It's Magic"

RP's hottest romantic comedy with Thai superstar and Filipina leading lady to screen in U.S. theaters starting November 9

REDWOOD CITY, CA, November 5, 2012 – After releasing overseas a horror-suspense film in “The Healing”, a mature romantic drama in “The Mistress”, and a wacky comedy in “This Guy’s In Love With U, Mare!” – all box-office hits – ABS-CBN’s Star Cinema returns to the screen with one its strongest genres: feel-good romantic comedy via Suddenly It’s Magic which will hit select U.S. theatres starting November 9.

Giving rom-com a fresh take, the film outfit experimented with an international pairing, matching Thai superstar actor-singer-model Mario Maurer and Filipina actress Erich Gonzales in a youthful, upbeat love story that captures the delicate flavors of a modern fairy tale.

Maurer plays Marcus Hanson, a Thai matinee idol who has everything… good looks, fame and fortune. Well, almost everything. While his movies make people believe in happy endings, Marcus is facing personal and professional burnout: his onscreen and real girlfriend just dumped him for someone else. Unlucky in love, Marcus begins to lose faith in what he has been doing and escapes to another country to find himself. With the help of a nifty magical plot device called Deus ex machina, the ubiquitous tourism slogan, “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” reaches his consciousness and he decides to fly to the breathtaking province of Ilocos Norte to flee from the media frenzy surrounding his chaotic lovelife.

He ends up in said province’s picturesque capital of Laoag where he chanced upon Joey Hermosa (Gonzales) in a hotel. Pretty Joey is actually nursing a broken heart: she is a spurned bride. So, she compensates internally by weaving her own happy endings through baking, creating wedding cakes and other sweet delights and treats.

Marcus finds himself drawn to Joey’s passion for baking, which reignites his love for his own craft, acting. He also can’t shake his fast-growing feelings of attraction towards her. But not so fast! He has to learn how to court a Filipina properly or else he and Joey would not be able to get past the I-hate-you stage of cutely and lovably annoying each other to death. Yes, the two adorable characters struggle for the right recipe that gives them a crack at their own happily-ever-after.

Just when the ingredients are falling into place with a romantic trip to Thailand, here come the fans who want Marcus back with his onscreen love mate, compounded by his overprotective mother and Joey’s own responsibilities back in the Philippines.

Is their love just a rebound affair, a holiday romance, a fantasy bubble that is about to burst or is it true, solid and strong enough to face life’s realities? Is the chemistry for real?

ABS-CBN Foundation International issues urgent appeal for donations to Hurricane Sandy victims

Call made by AFI as thousands of Filipinos in Northeast U.S. reel from impact

REDWOOD CITY, CA, November 2, 2012 – ABS CBN Foundation International (AFI) makes an official plea today for donations to assist Filipinos in the Northeast United States who were impacted by the devastation wrought by Hurricane Sandy.

Earlier this week, powerful winds and rains brought by Sandy pummeled said region, resulting in a current death toll of 75, a number that is expected to rise as more bodies are recovered from the wreckage, per U.S. News and World Report and Fox News. Forecasting firm Eqecat also estimated a cost of $20 to $50 billion in economic losses, including property damage, lost business and extra living expenses.

Staring out as a hurricane that turned into a super storm, Sandy cut a path of destruction that ranks second only to Hurricane Katrina in terms of damage. Filipinos in New York and New Jersey were among those who fled their homes due to floodwaters brought about by the hurricane. A number of them had to be evacuated especially those affected by the floodwaters in Atlantic City, Jersey City, Keansburg, and New Milford in New Jersey as well as Inwood, Long Island, New York. Thousands of Filipinos are among the 1.5 million people who are now without power in Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Maine and Ohio. An estimated 460,000 Filipinos live in 13 states across the eastern seaboard of the United States.

TFC extols Filipino excellence in 2012 Station ID

“Da Best ng Pilipino, Saan Man sa Mundo” kicks off on ASAP 2012

REDWOOD CITY, CA, February 21, 2012 – ABS-CBN’s The Filipino Channel (TFC), the largest 24/7 in-language multi-platform television network serving Filipinos all over the world, kicked off on February 19 a new station identity (SID) during the top-rated musical variety show ASAP 2012 on ABS-CBN in the Philippines and on TFC in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Middle East, Asia-Pacific, Japan and Australia.

Called, “Da Best ng Pilipino, Saan Man sa Mundo” (literally, “The Best of the Filipino Anywhere in the World”), the SID delivers lilting music, a powerful blend of choral and solo rock vocals, a glossy production, a stylized execution and a strong message on five areas of Filipino excellence: Pamilya (family), Kasayahan(exultation or joyful festivities), Talento (talent), Pagmamahalan (love or romance), and Kabayanihan (heroism).

Hot on the heels of last year’s phenomenal global SID, “Tayo Ang TFC” (“We are TFC”), the creative lead tandem of ABS-CBN Head of Creative Communication Management Robert G. Labayen and TFC’s Global Customer Engagement Head John-D Lazatin thought that celebrating Filipino excellence was the logical message for the SID that would follow “Tayo Ang TFC”.

“In 2011, our global affinity campaign highlighted the common ground that TFC shared with Filipinos who migrated to other countries,” said Lazatin. “The experiences began with tears and struggles. But with hope, innate abilities, resilience and hard work, these eventually transformed into stories of joy, pride, and triumph. Through it all, TFC was with them in their journey and has become part and parcel of the lives of Filipinos overseas. TFC saluted the Filipino community worldwide via that SID.”

Lazatin continued: “In 2012, Robert and I with our team decided to focus on singling out the qualities that made Filipinos rise above all the challenges they faced, especially in 2011. We were one in thinking that we should highlight the exceptional qualities.”

The result is a progression in messaging, but a radically different execution. “If ‘Tayo Ang TFC’ had a raw, emotional, semi-documentary feel to it, with actual Filipino migrants telling their stories, there is no one talking on ‘Da Best ng Pilipino, Saan Man sa Mundo’. We let the images and the music do all the talking,” said Labayen, who also wrote the lyrics to the SID song.

“TFC’s 2012 SID ‘Da Best ng Pilipino, Saan Man sa Mundo’ is an affirmation that when you talk about the Filipino, it’s just no longer about those living in the Philippines, but Filipinos residing and excelling all over the world,” said ABS-CBN Global COO Raffy Lopez. “TFC salutes and supports the Filipino Community worldwide, people who bring the light of hope, joy and triumph wherever they may be through excellence in all that they do.”

As the SID lyrics go, “Sa isip, sa puso, kalinga’t talino, ipagmamalaki mo, da best ng Pilipino!” (“In thought, in loving, in caring and through our talent, let’s take pride in the best of the Filipino!”)

MADLANG PEOPLE TAKE LIMELIGHT IN “IT’S SHOWTIME”

ABS-CBN’s new noontime program “It’s Showtime” has just started serving up unparalleled fun to the madlang people with its amusing games and exciting prizes but it already became the most talked-about local topics on Twitter during its much-awaited pilot last Monday (Feb 6).

The pilot elicited delight and thrill among Filipino netizens, prompting the hashtag ‘#ItsShowtime’ to top Twitter’s trending topics. Also trending on the micro-blogging site was ‘Baliwag U,’ a term popularized by host Anne Curtis, and the impromptu comical skit segment ‘Sine Mo ‘To.’

True to their promise to make Filipinos happy, the hosts continue to bring their own brand of entertainment through ‘Sine Mo ‘To’ by thriving on spontaneity and giving the spotlight to the randomly selected studio audience members.

After it trended on Twitter, the highly engaging segment captured the hearts of viewers who have since followed the story narrated by Vhong Navarro and Billy Crawford and acted out by the selected madlang people and hosts Anne, ‘Kuya’ Kim Atienza, Karylle, Vice Ganda, Teddy Corpuz, Jugs Jugueta, Jhong Hilario, Ryan Bang, Coleen Garcia, at Eric ‘Eruption’ Tai.

Aside from the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform on-stage with the hosts, the audience participants also get to win cash prizes depending on their performance in ‘Akting Mo, Premyo Mo.’

The program continues to discover the most entertaining acts from all over the country via the Classic Showtime talent search portion, while the hosts get to unleash their wacky side in “Arte Mo!” where the remaining contestant advances to Kuya Kim’s thrilling “Rock Clock” round and could win as much as P500,000.

Meanwhile, people who can’t sing in tune don’t need to worry in the ‘Singing V’ game, hosted by Vice, that challenges participants’ knowledge of song lyrics.

Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. Bayaning Pilipino Awards goes global

Worldwide search for Filipino organizations doing extraordinary service kicks off this month

REDWOOD CITY, CA, February 10, 2012 – Where there are Filipinos, there are heroes, and it’s time to honor them.”

With this campaign line, firm belief and an international network of regional teams in place to make it happen, the Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. Bayaning Pilipino Awards is going global this year, the first time since its inception in 1994.

“It is a huge and momentous initiative to reach out to Filipinos all over the world and recognize their collective efforts in serving their less fortunate Filipino brothers and sisters wherever they may be. We are truly excited by this development,” said Fr. Nilo Tanalega, SJ who heads Ugnayan at Tulong para sa Maralitang Pamilya (UGAT) Foundation (translated literally as Relations and Assistance for Poor Families). UGAT, a non-profit organization based in the Philippines, oversees the screening of nominations and selection of winners.

“My father would be smiling right now,” said Raffy Lopez, COO of ABS-CBN Global which oversees the promotion and production of the distinguished award ceremonies. “He started Bayaning Pilipino (Filipino Heroes) with Father Nilo. It would warm his heart to know that ABS-CBN in Manila, TFC globally and UGAT, have expanded their long-running partnership to search around the world for ordinary folks doing extraordinary work in the service of the Filipino people. This is true to his vision and mission.”

The “father” is Don Eugenio “Geny” Lopez Jr., founder of ABS-CBN Corporation, the largest entertainment and broadcasting company in the Philippines. He is known in the industry as the “Father of Philippine Broadcasting”. The award, which was named after him, began after he learned of a Filipina maid in Hong Kong who got run over by a car in pursuit of saving a child. The award gives recognition to Filipinos (now as organizations) who in the face of challenges and difficulties manage to rise and emerge as role models of service in their communities.

“We have honored so many Filipinos, but taking the search to a worldwide level posed major logistical requirements. We are so enthused by the energy and commitment of TFC teams in all regions in taking part in the project. It shows their involvement and love for the Filipino communities that they serve,” said Chit Guerrero, vice president for ABS-CBN Corporation’s Special Projects which works directly with UGAT in Manila for this project.

Gawad Geny Lopez Jr Global Bayaning Pilipino has kicked off this month. The search is open to all Filipino organizations in the U.S., Canada, Asia-Pacific (covering Singapore and Hong Kong), Europe (covering Italy and U.K.), Middle East, Australia and Japan. The criteria are as follows: (1) Measurable impact: scope and number of beneficiaries with known effective results; (2) Highlight the value of unity/PAGKAKAISA (effective elimination of selosan (jealousy), inggitan (envy), siraan (negative criticism), etc. or has effectively dealt with these either through interventions or through innovative methods); (3) Focused on service and/or an issue (poverty, health, education, etc) as felt either in your respective country or in the Philippines; (4) Transcend regionalism/parochialism; (5) Participatory/people-oriented leadership (as shown in the manner of how they choose their leaders and their acceptance thereof); (6) Promote Filipino values and culture and Filipino heritage.

Deadline of submission of nominations is on March 15, 2012. Regional winners will be announced late May 2012 after a period of tight screenings and validation. The winners will be flown to Manila, Philippines for the national awarding ceremony to be held in June 2012.

For nomination forms and more information, visit www.globalbayaningpilipino.com.

A Mother's Story receives “A” grade from RP’s Cinema Evaluation Board

TFC’s first film venture to premiere on January 8 in Manila, followed by January 12 theatrical run nationwide

MANILA, Philippines - Comedienne Pokwang's first solo movie, A Mother's Story, was graded "A" by the Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB).

Films graded “A” and “B” by the Board are entitled to amusement tax reward that commensurate with the amusement tax levied on and collected from the films by Metro Manila cities and municipalities, and by other highly urbanized and independent component cities in the Philippines, pursuant to Sections 141 and 150 of Republic Act No. 7160.

Grade “A” films qualify for 100 percent of the amusement tax collected while Grade “B” films are eligible for 65 percent of the amusement tax collected, where the remaining 35 shall accrue to the funds of the Film Development Council of the Philippines under which the CEB serves as the film evaluating body.

A Mother's Story is ABS-CBN The Filipino Channel’s (TFC) latest movie offering to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) around the world.

The film revolves around the story of Medy, played by Pokwang, a make-up artist who dares to make a life in the United States as an illegal immigrant in exchange for saving the life of her infant daughter.

It focuses on the everyday sacrifices that millions of Filipino parents make as they leave their homes to find jobs overseas.

In an earlier report, Pokwang said she is a former OFW herself and can relate to the hardships and challenges experienced by Filipinos who decided to try their luck overseas in order to provide a bright future for their families.

“Totoong-totoo ‘yung emotions na naibigay ko talaga. Kasi alam ko ‘yung naramdaman ng mga nanay, especially yung mga magulang na nawalay sa mga anak (The emotions I felt were real because I know what mothers feel, especially those parents who were forced to separate from their children to work abroad),” she said.

“For TFC’s initial offering, we dedicate A Mother’s Story to all the Filipino parents and children who continue to live and love apart,” explained John-D Lazatin, the director of A Mother’s Story.

The movie also showcases both the travails and triumphs of illegal immigrant Filipinos.

TFC chose host and comedienne Pokwang to play Medy because her own personal life epitomizes the struggles of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW).

“Pokwang has lived the story. She has a full grasp of what sacrifice means to the overseas Filipino,” Lazatin pointed out.The successful comedienne once worked as an OFW in the Middle East and in Japan.

While A Mother’s Story will premiere on January 8 at Cinema 5 of Trinoma Mall in Quezon City, Philippines, it has already screened successfully abroad, namely in some areas in the US, Canada, London and Milan. It will also hit Philippine theaters nationwide on the same day. (abs-cbnnews.com, ABS-CBN Europe News Bureau, Balitang America, ABS-CBN International)

ANGEL LOCSIN OFFICIALLY JOINS ‘TODA MAX’

With her effective portrayal as Isabel Padausdos, Justin’s (Vhong Navarro) girlfriend, in the first few episodes of Kapamilya Comedy flagship sitcom “TODA Max,” Angel Locsin has proven that her gift in acting is not only limited to primetime teleseryes and romantic movies. She can also shine in comedy

But after showing her innate hilarity, there was no more reason for her to leave the Beverly Gil’s strip. “TODA Max” proudly launches Angel Locsin as its newest member, whose humor is sure to add loads of laughter and bring happiness to every Filipino family.

It can be recalled that recently, Angel made a mark when she did a serious wolf role in ABS-CBN’s hit primetime series “Imortal” with John Lloyd Cruz. Now in “TODA Max,” she’s ready to bring out the comedienne in her. Angel will join other big stars such as action superstar Robin Padilla, Prince of Comedy Vhong Navarro and Pokwang.

In an interview, the actress said that besides the acting awards she wants to bag in the future, she also dreamt of starring in family-oriented sitcoms like “TODA Max.”

“I grew up watching sitcoms, especially those filled with moral values. I also believe that a family’s relationship can be strengthened by watching television together,” said Angel.

Meanwhile, “TODA Max” was hailed as the country’s most watched comedy program for the month of November. According to Kantar Media, the sitcom garnered 23% TV rating, alongside with other top-rating shows of the Kapamilya network.
