MAT RANILLO TO PLAY “KRISTO”
ON APRIL 2, 2011 AT HAYWARD, CA
Two-time Philippine Best Actor; Mat Ranillo III will reprise his signature role of our Lord Jesus in a live performance of “Kristo” passion play at Chabot College Performing Arts Center, Saturday April 2, 2011.
Mat has been portraying the role of Jesus since the late 1970s. He was also nominated as Best Actor by the Film Academy of The Philippines in 1996 for the same role in the movie version of “Kristo”
“Kristo, The Passion Play” is a spectacular dramatization of the life and times of our Lord Jesus Christ from a Filipino point of view, utilizing the stylized form of dance-drama, pantomime (no dialogues) with Filipino songs. All nationalities can appreciate the play.
The play was initially staged at the Folk Arts Theater and was endorsed by the late Cardinal Sin & Monsignor Dakay of the Philippines; “Kristo” ran for several years and had tours in the provinces of Bacolod and Cebu.
The play also features Philippine actors who now reside here such as Joji Isla, Jackie Castillejo, Suzette Ranillo, Lee Robin Salazar, Ryan Ortiz, and Gloria Sevilla along with 60 plus local actors and dancers from the Bay Area.
