GMA Pinoy TV's 'Kapusong Pinoy' a sold-out success in the US;
Kapuso fans abroad treated to an early holiday treat
Last October 7, thousands of Filipinos from different parts of America trooped to The Grove of Anaheim in Los Angeles, California to witness the sold-out concert ‘Kapusong Pinoy: Paskuhan at Kantawanan sa Anaheim’.
The GMA Pinoy TV event was bannered by some of the biggest Kapuso stars today – Ms. Ai Ai delas Alas, Christian Bautista, Julie Anne San Jose, Donita Nose and Super Tekla, and Ms. Marian Rivera-Dantes.
Ai Ai showcased her talent as the Philippines’ Comedy Concert Queen. During her “hugot” number, she serenaded an audience member on-stage while making the crowd laugh at her hilarious jokes in-between songs.
Christian was his usual charming self as he sang some of his favorite romantic hits with former “The Clash” contestants Rachel Bergado and Mika Gorospe.
A show-stopping moment, Julie Anne left the audience in awe and wanting more as she gave her rendition of the song “Never Enough” from the hit movie The Greatest Showman.
Comedians Donita Nose and Super Tekla brought the house down with their comical humor and equally enjoyable song and dance numbers.
Marian, who recently announced her second pregnancy, even went all-out with her dance performances for the Kapuso abroad. As a surprise, her husband, Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes, joined her on-stage for an impromptu duet to the song “Grow Old With You” which drew loud squeals of kilig from the crowd.
Adding flavor to the eventful night were talented LA-based Pinoys Erwin Andaya, Sharon Rose Orosco, The Dancing Moms of LA, Clarishe Enaje, Haydee Angeline, and Michael Zuñiga who performed as guest artists.
Before wrapping up the show, Marian and Ai Ai gave messages of love for all Pinoys abroad who won’t be able to celebrate Christimas in the Philippines, "Dito nakikita talaga ang sakripisyo ng isang Pinoy na nagmamahal sa pamilya, na lahat ay kayang gawin at tiisin. Sa mga Kapuso na hindi makakauwi ngayong taon, Maligayang Pasko po sa inyo."
"To all of you Pinoys who are far from your families this Christmas, I will pray that you'll have less sadness," Ai Ai added.
And making the early holiday treat even more special is GMA Pinoy TV’s Paskuhan Village, which featured Christmas carolers, Pinoy noche Buena food exhibits, and more goodies from GMA Pinoy TV.
Some of the Kapuso abroad, who greatly enjoyed the show, expressed their appreciation via social media.
“Ang ganda at ang galing naman nilang lahat magperform nakakaaliw talaga lalo na si Marian ang galing talagang sumayaw parang di buntis kung sumayaw eh. At umawit pa siya,” Jennefer Repil shared on Facebook.
Meanwhile, Instagram user @happy5960 attested how the crowd screamed in purekilig upon seeing the Kapuso royal couple together on stage. “Over the moon ang saya ng audience @gmapinoytv lalo na’t may bonus sila, sweet surprise performance ni @dongdantes, sinabayan niya si misis sa pagkanta.”
“We really really enjoyed your show. Sulit ang layo ng byahe naming kasi talagang napasaya niyo kami. Hope maulit ulit!” @abogadosusan also said via Instagram.
Representatives from partner-carriers Frontier and DirecTV were also present during the show.
‘Kapusong Pinoy: Paskuhan at Kantawanan sa Anaheim’ was an original concept by GMA Entertainment Group and was line produced by Starmedia Entertainment. It was GMA Pinoy TV’s way of giving thanks to the Kapuso viewers in Southern California for welcoming GMA’s flagship international channel into their homes since 2005. In addition, the special musical event was doubly special as it was part of GMA’s celebration of the Filipino-American History Month (FAHM). The celebration of FAHM is a result of decades of effort by the FilAm community to get official recognition by the US government on the contributions of Filipinos to American history and culture.
