East meets West with Asianovelas to start airing on TFC this June

DALY CITY, Calif., June 11, 2020-- The Korean wave or Hallyu continues to spread around the globe with people talking about the skin-care routines, up to Korean music with the K-Pop group BTS winning awards at the Billboard Music Awards, and with the Korean film “Parasite” making Oscars history after raking four awards early this year.

Also making waves in different countries are the South Korean series, which TFC will bring to its cable, satellite, and IPTV live channels starting June 15, kicking-off with the Filipino dubbed South Korean series “Tale of Nokdu” and “Love in the Moonlight”.

Tale of Nokdu” is a romantic-comedy series based on the popular webtoon of the same title. It tells the story of Jeon Nok Doo (Jang Dong-Yoon), a young man who does not want to get married and disguises himself as a woman to infiltrate a mysterious women-only community. There he meets Dong Dong Joo (Kim So-Hyun), a young woman who is living in the said community but does not want to become a gisaeng (female entertainer).

On the other hand, “Love in the Moonlight” is a story about Hong Ra-On (Kim Yoo-Jung) who disguises herself as a man who counsels men on dating. Due to a love letter she wrote for a client, she meets Crown Prince Hyomyeong (Park Go-Bum), who is hiding his identity. Unaware that she is a woman, Hong Ra-On catches the interest of Hyomyeong, which leads his eunuchs to make her one of them.

Take your Hallyu gaming a notch higher by catching TFC’s Filipino dubbed Asianovela (Asian series) offerings “Tale of Nokdu” and “Love in the Moonlight” on TFC cable, satellite, and IPTV live channels starting June 15.

JoKoy’s latest Netflix special, featuring Filipino American talents, premieres on June 12

LOS ANGELES, May 18, 2020 - JoKoy, one of today’s premier comedians, announced that his third Netflix special, “In His Elements,” starts streaming on June 12, which also marks the annual celebration Philippine Independence Day.

On his Instagram® account, JoKoy shared, “This is a very special moment for me. This is that one special where I said I need to go back home to the Philippines; I need to show people where my mom is from. I had this crazy idea of bringing a bunch of my friends that were Filipino that live in America that never have been back to the Philippines. Let us show them how beautiful the country is, let us show them how beautiful the people are.”

According to one of the top entertainment websites, Deadline Hollywood, “JoKoy’s new Netflix special will celebrate his heritage as he cracks wise about life as a Filipino-American while highlighting the culture of Manila. Koy uses this opportunity to shine a light on other Filipino-American performers by welcoming to the stage famed breakdancer Ronnie, Grammy-winning producer !llmind, singer/songwriter Inigo Pascual, and comedians Andrew Lopez, Joey Guila, and Andrew Orolfo.”

Pascual, who joins JoKoy in “In His Elements,” says that “Kuya Jo Koy treats everyone like family. He makes sure everyone is having an amazing time and that everyone is included. I love how he makes sure to include his Filipino roots in whatever he does, and it was an honor to be a part of this Netflix production, the first to be shot in the Philippines.”

Fans worldwide will be in for a treat as JoKoy performs on a stage and connects with his people who could relate with his jokes and who have experienced similar hilarious incidents with their parents, the way JoKoy has funny exchanges with his Filipina mother, Josie.

JoKoy proudly declares, “Everything about this show is Filipino - the camera men, the audience, the venue owners- we need to embrace our culture, have a good time & I can’t wait for the world to see it. So proud of this one & my mom is going to be even more proud, because I finally brought Netflix to the Philippines.”

JoKoy recently took part in TFC’s “Heroes Without Capes” campaign honoring the front liners. He was joined by other Filipino American icons like Grammy award winning H.E.R., Apl.de.ap from the multi-platinum group, Black Eyed Peas, and Billboard chart-topping Saweetie.

New teleserye, comeback movie, and more…

KATHRYN, DANIEL REMAIN KAPAMILYAS, INK THREE-YEAR CONTRACTS WITH ABS-CBN

Onscreen love team and real life sweethearts Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla remained Kapamilyas as they sign their respective three-year contracts with the network yesterday, January 15.

After working on projects separately for more than a year, the phenomenal box office couple shared their sentiments on what people should expect, now that the sought after KathNiel tandem will be back on TV this year with an upcoming teleserye, “Tanging Mahal.”

“It’s going to be something fresh, especially that we have waited for this to happen again. I think that the fans are really excited to see us work together again, and personally, we are excited for this, too,” Daniel shared.

Aside from his project with Kathryn, Daniel also mentioned his excitement about his movie titled “Whether the Weather is Fine” with ABS-CBN executive and veteran actress Charo Santos-Concio.

“I’m hoping that people would watch out for this film because this is really different, this is something new. The attack is different, the feel of the movie is different, that’s why it’s exciting.” Daniel mused.

Kathryn, on the other hand, shared her happiness about the support she’s gaining from her YouTube channel, “Everyday Kath,” which garnered almost a million subscribers in just two weeks after its first vlog release.

“I’m happy. More than the subscribers, I’m more delighted towards the comments that we receive because we do not know that a simple glimpse into our personal lives would have a positive effect on them,” Kathryn shared.

KathNiel fans should also watch out for a comeback movie that the love team will be cooking for this year.

When asked about how they feel towards staying a Kapamilya, Daniel answered “Very happy and very thankful that ABS-CBN still trusts us the same way we trust it. We’re very happy, blessed, and excited for the things in store for us.”

Present in the signing were ABS-CBN Chairman Mark Lopez, ABS-CBN President and CEO Carlo Katigbak, COO of Broadcast Cory Vidanes, TV Production Head Laurenti Dyogi, Star Magic Head Johnny Manahan, and Head of Treasury Rick Tan. (Kane Choa, Aaron Domingo, ABS-CBN Corporation)

DFA reminds overseas Filipinos to register now

as overseas voters for 2022 Philippine National Elections

The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), through its foreign service posts and media partners, reminds all Filipino citizens overseas to register now as overseas voters for the 2022 Philippine National Elections.

What you need to register:

  • An accomplished and signed application form (check the website of your local Philippine Embassy or Consulate General);

  • A valid Philippine Passport;

  • If you don't have a valid passport, submit your NSO birth certificate and a valid Green Card (original and photocopy for both);

  • If you are a Seafarer: a photocopy of your Seaman’s Book or any other document that will prove that you are a seafarer should also be submitted in addition to “1” and “2” above; and,

  • If you are a Dual Citizen: please submit your Dual Citizenship certificate (original and photocopy) in addition to “1” and “2” above.

The registration period will end on 30 September 2021.

Personal appearance is required, since the registrant will need to provide biometrics.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. I already registered as an overseas voter years ago. Do I need to register again?

That depends if you voted! If you have voted in the 2016 and/or 2019 National Elections, then you are still registered.

However, if you failed to vote in two consecutive elections (2016 and 2019 elections), then COMELEC would have deactivated your registration record.

The list is alphabetical by surname, so scroll down to search for your last name (or press CTRL F to search if you are using a computer). If your name appears in the list, then you will need to apply for reactivation at the Consulate. Please bring the same documents stated above.

2. Do I need to register to vote?

Yes! Filipino citizens need to register in order to vote. This is to protect the integrity of the election process. If you are not registered, then you must register within the registration period in order to receive a ballot.

3. If I fail to register during the registration period, can't I just take someone else's ballot?

No, because that will deprive that person of their opportunity to vote. There is only one (1) ballot allocated for every registered voter's name.

4. When is the next election?

The next election is on May 9, 2022.

5. What positions will be on the 2019 election ballot?

In the 2022 National Election, registered voters will be able to vote for President, Vice President, Senators and Party List Representatives.

6. I'm still confused! Who can I ask?

You can contact your local Philippine Embassy or Consulate General. If sending an email, please don't forget to include your full name, mobile number, and email address. Include as many details as possible regarding your question.
