PGR workspaces

History Department spaces

The Department of History has a number of research student workspaces available. Workspaces include a networked computer, which you can use to access a wide range of software. If you prefer to use your own laptop, you are welcome to use the available network points to connect to the University network.

Please note, these desks are 'hot desks' with students welcome to use any desk available. However, research students who regularly use the departmental workspaces are usually able to use the same desk over a period of time.

Using desks

Please use the History Research Student Desks spreadsheet to book space. If you will only be using a desk part-time please indicate that it is available to share so that we can maximise use of the space. You should only say that you are unable to share a desk where you are using it daily on a regular basis.

Kitchen facilities

The History Department has kitchen spaces for staff and PGR use on the first and second floors. Fridge, kettle, microwave and toaster facilities are available - you'll need to bring your own provisions and crockery etc.

Storage

Students are welcome to use both the open access storage and lockable under-desk storage in these areas to store academic resources, but please remember that this is a shared area for all research students and you should respect the access rights of other users.

Arts and Humanities Graduate School Centre

The Centre is located in the Jessop West building, in the heart of campus, and includes 32 brand new desktop computers, lockers, pedestal drawers, sofas, a kitchen area (sink, fridge and hot tap) and a private meeting / wellbeing room.

The Centre will be available for use Monday to Friday (8am - 6pm), and swipe access must be requested in advance via the google form on the Contract of Use Policy.  You can find lots of information here about how to access the Centre and how to book a desk.
