For this project, we were instructed to create/take a photo that is a creative representation of weather or the presence of weather. For my photo, I decided to use lighting as my main focal point to represent weather. This photo is set in an open field. In order to create the lighting, because it was dark, I used the headlights of an oncoming car. I took an image of lighting, and edited it into the sky using photoshop. Since we are in quarter 4, which is our film photography unit, I printed out this inverted photo on transparency and exposed it to 4 seconds of light on an f8 aperture. I proceeded to following the developing process to make a print. Elements and principles used in this image include the following: line, value, texture, space, balance, contrast, and emphasis.
Composition rules and techniques showcased in this image include sharp focus, framing, low horizon line, and low key lighting. In order to change and revise this image, I went through a plethora of steps. At first, I was just going to leave it as the original image with the original sky. However, I figured that seemed a bit too bland. So I decided to edit this one in.
I've enjoyed working with this photo because I think it's a very thought-provoking image. With the oncoming headlights and the strike of lighting, it seems like a very lucky photo. This image relates to my life because it's a photo of my mom in a field that I grew up next to. The field I learned how to ice skate on, the field I ride next to on my bike in the summer, the field in which I star gaze with friends in. If I could do something to make this image stronger, I would've taken it out of the developer a bit sooner so that it was a lighter print and you could be able to see the tree line in the back round.
