Family Dynamics

The subject of this image is my two brothers and my father. It's hard to tell, but they are standing on the roof. Composition rules and techniques showcased in this image include shape, value, texture, and space, while principles include balance, contrast, emphasis, pattern, and unity. Composition rules and techniques in this image include rule of thirds, formal balance, grouping, and framing. I wish I could've made the edges a little more distinct, however, I like how this image looks like something out of a newspaper, with it's fades edges. I wanted to alter the image some way, in order to use up the overhead negative space. I decided to write "strong" instead of "Whelan", or "Boston Strong" because it makes the viewer think. I asked the boys to pose someway instead of just standing and smiling, and this was the first pose that they all thought of. This relates to my life because it includes my family, who many perceive to be a very mentally and physically strong family. If this image could be stronger, I would make it a candid instead of having it so posed.
