The task that we were asked to do was create a ten sectioned art piece, that showed how art can go from light to dark. We were told to show this with different patterns in every box, and as we advanced from left to right, the patterns should get darker and darker every section. We also were asked to include all of the elements of art in our creation. I used line, shape, color, value, form, texture and space to better improve and express how fast patterns can go from white to dark. The only materials I used for this project was a sharpened pencil and a ruler to insure that my lines would be straight when desired. When executing this project, I made sure to balance out the different patterns so that they would best represent the lightest and darkest patterns, and all of them in between. Since we couldn't do any straight out shading, I had to make patterns where the lines were really close together to show that it was a dark pattern. I used spread out lines when I wanted it to be a whiter and more empty space. When doing this, it shows the movement of light to dark. When looking at my work from a distance after I thought I was finished, I realized that box #8 had too much white, and that it interrupted the flow of the piece. In order to fix this, I colored in the boxes more, so that the white lines would be much thinner, thus creating a darker square, instead of a lighter space.
