Written Reflection:
Throughout the course of the semester, I've noticed my images becoming more and more mature and thought provoking. I see this as a big improvement considering that my concentration was societal issues. With this concentration, comes the overhanging purpose of getting people to think and consider the given topic.
I believe that the relationships assignment was the most difficult for a singular reason. Not because it was a difficult picture to take. Not because the editing was hard or the printing process, but I ran into a great amount of trouble with the developing process. Since I used an altered developing technique, It made it hard for the developer to be applied evenly and all at once. The developer-soaked brush would touch some of the paper before others, making it darker in some areas and lighter in others. After coming to the realization that this was an issue (about 10 test prints later) I decided to apply the developer in a single line, straight across the equator, and as quickly as possible.
I am proud of many of these photos. However, I must say that my personal favorite has to be the weather image. After lots of practice throughout the semester with photoshop, unique lighting techniques, and other rules of photography, I think I finally created an image that had a certain flare that I'm striving for. I am proud of the editing that I did to this image, as well as the developing process and how the values turned out.
My work is a display of my range in talents concerning photography because it shows the areas in which I need more improvement on, and the areas in which I am skilled in. For example, my photos from this semester show that I have the ability to photograph unique lighting and portraits, but still need some work on things such as landscape photography and close up objects such as still lives. For example, photos from this semester that show that I need improvement include the projects of Geometric Shadows, Organic Forms and Textures, Food, and Magnification. Images that show my ability to photograph things such as unique lighting and portraiture, include the projects of Portrait, Creative Landscape, Unique Lighting, Reflective Self Portrait, and Weather.
