For this project, we were assigned to alter your typical negative print. However, instead of altering the developing process as demonstrated in the previous project, we were instructed to physically do something to the negative. Per usual, I started out the project by converting the original image to greyscale and inverting it so the colors come out correctly when the photo paper is exposed to light. I proceeded to print the same exact thing, laying the second sheet over the first. I cut out paper stars to place on the image, as well as placing the bottom of my shirt, (that happened to be lace), on the lower third of the negative. After exposing the altered image at setting f8 with no filters and for 2 seconds, I developed the photo paper. The final image included many principals and elements of design including line, shape, value, texture, space, balance, contrast, pattern, rhythm, and unity. In the future, something I could improve upon would be taking a better look at my test strip to see which exposure would be most beneficial to the details of the image. This project relates to my life because it's a photo that I took of some of my friends. I like how I balanced the two photos to be even on both sides because this group of friends is known for our ability to balance. In this case, both mentally and physically on the rocks of Higgins Beach in South Portland.
