Glass/Transparency

The subject of this image is a wine glass placed on a frozen over puddle in the middle of a field during a sunset. In order to make this image, I filled up a wine glass with water, and pulled over on the side of the road the second I saw a frozen area in the field. I chose to create this specific image because it was a creative way to incorporate light, the glass, and my concentration into a single image. I used line, color, form, texture and space. As well as balance, contrast, and emphasis.

Composition rules and techniques used in this image include informal balance (because the glass is not in the middle), and sharp focus (because the glass is in focus). in order to change and revise my photo to get it exactly what I wanted, I played with the amount of light that the shutter speed allowed in. This decided how much the photo was focused on the glass, and how much of the photo was focused on the sunlight in the back round.

My concentration is societal issues, and it is represented in this photo because the main subject is a wine glass which is related to alcohol. Alcoholism is a major issue in our society and I took this photo in order to bring attention to the issue. This project relates to my life because being a high school student, I am surrounded by peers that participate in under-age drinking. If I could make this image stronger, I would make the horizon line higher to use more composition rules and techniques in this photo which I believe would make it stronger.
