Time Capsule Drawings

Self Portrait

Corner of Room

Kitchen Object

Hand Holding an Object

For this assignment, we were prompted to create four separate drawings. One a self portrait, another a corner of our room, an object in our kitchen, and the last of our hand holding an object. The setting of this assignment was for us to create art that we could easily relate to our own lives, all of these pieces are based on me and my life, which made it easier for me to fully engage in them. Materials used includes a number 2 pencil, and in some cases, colored pencils. I also used a ruler in order to get straight lines. As I got further and further into my project, I started to realize how I wanted to make something in the hands piece pop. It seemed rather bland, so I wanted to add a little color. I didn't want something too predominant, so I decided to make the nails a cool blue grey color. This project relates to my life because all of these subjects, are of me, or have something to do with me. The self portrait is pretty straight forward, because the subject is based off of my face. The corner of my room is focused on an area in my life in which I look at every morning when I wake up, every night when I go to sleep, as well as many moments in between. My kitchen sink is also an object that I look at multiple times per day. The hand drawing relates to my life because I wanted show that instead of seeking love in things, I look for it in people. I like to surround myself with people I love, not objects. In these pieces, I am most proud of the eyebrows on the self portrait. I believe that they are the feature that resembles me the most. I came across the most difficulty when attempting to create the landscape piece. And no, I did not overcome this difficulty. Landscape has always been difficult for me, and I hope to improve my skills in that area over the next year. If I could've done the corner of my room piece over again I would've picked a different area of my room to sketch. By doing this, I believe that it would've turned out much better.
